Book Description
Untenable helps identify untenable situations, describes the barriers to addressing them, and suggests novel ways to approach them. Even the best of us can find ourselves enduring situations that are negative and unsustainable. Too often, we ignore the situation or just make incremental moves. The boiling frog considers installing a ceiling fan. The deck chairs are arranged on the Titanic. High-performing people can boost their own performance even further by developing their skills to identify and remove their untenable situations. Untenable situations at best sap our creativity, vitality, and energy, at worst; they can be serious threats to our well-being or health of our organizations. Untenable helps identify untenable situations, describes the barriers to addressing them, and suggests novel ways to approach them. This book is perfect for leaders who would like to be even more effective, see that effectiveness cascade into better organizational results, and would like to see their businesses grow. The author describes what untenable situations are, what they look like for leaders and organizations, and why we do not address them appropriately. The book contains useful and practical insights for leaders to help coach themselves and others to identify their untenable situations, remove barriers that may be preventing those situations from being addressed, and prevent untenable situations from occurring in the first place.

Book Description
Long accused of racism and “white flight,” the ethnic Americans driven from their homes and neighborhoods—the author included—finally get the chance to tell their side of the story. “A startlingly honest and poignant look at ‘white flight’ from the white perspective. A necessary and overdue corrective.” —Brent Bozell III, founder and president of the Media Research Center I asked one lifelong friend, a rare Democrat among the displaced, why he and his widowed mother finally left our block in the early 1970s, twenty years after the first African-American families moved in. He searched a minute for the right set of words, and then simply said, “It became untenable.” When I asked what he meant by “untenable,” he answered, “When your mother gets mugged for the second time, that’s untenable. When your home gets broken into for the second time, that’s untenable.” In researching this project, I found myself repeatedly stunned by the failure of self-described experts on white flight to ask those accused of fleeing why it was they fled. The reason the experts didn’t ask, I discovered, is that they were afraid of what they might learn.

Book Description
Scottish by birth, anarchist by persuasion, odd bikes and obscure comics by collection. Retired from thirty years of front line child protection, he lives between Scotland and British Columbia with his wife, three adult sons, and a blessing of grandchildren. Allan has penned reportage, articles, and fiction since the early eighties for a variety of motorcycle publications: Canadian Biker, Back Street Heroes (UK), Biker and Renegade (US). Pocahontas and Ubermensch have their real life counterparts in his stable, and the most recent build is a ‘31/’48 Chout (Chief/Scout) bobber. As for the magic...? Well, that’s really up to you. “Tinker Tales Untenable’ is a collection of previously unpublished short stories celebrating magic and motorcycles. Tinker is the son of an absentee Irish gypsy dad and a Scottish mother, raised poor and turned out on the streets after her death in his early teens. Blood will out, and he becomes a trader in iron ponies, only to become enmeshed in magic. Somehow he survives a sorcerer’s apprenticeship to Magic John, a notorious gutter-mage, as detailed in previous collections: ‘Tinker Tales’ (voted Fiction of the Year by motorcyclefiction.com) and ‘Tinker Tales Untold’ (Book of the Month, motorcyclefiction.com) yet trouble and temptation lurk around every corner. Here Tinker is reacquainted with (dead) members of his old outlaw club, acquires an illuminated tattoo, and runs into the Soviet version of Wonder Woman—amoungst other trials and tribulations. Hop on the pillion, hold tight, and enjoy the ride through, Britain, Canada, and America—not to mention Fairyland and beyond. Illustrated by: Louise Limb

Book Description
The volume presents Louw's Contextual Prosodic Theory from its beginnings to its newest applications. It journeys from delexicalisation and relexicalisation into Semantic Prosody and then to the heart of its contextual requirements within collocation and the thinking of J.R. Firth. Once there, it moves much of Firth’s and Malinowski’s thinking into a computational method based upon the ability of language to govern and analyse itself using collocation to plot its scope and limits. With the assistance of analytic philosophy, it parts logic (grammar) from metaphysics (vocabulary) along the lines of a non-computational formula of Bertrand Russell, and so falsifies the major premise of the Vienna Circle using its own central tenet: the Principle of Verification. Having arrived at corpus-derived subtext (the semantic aura of grammar strings, as distinguished from Semantic Prosody), the second half of the book proceeds to verify the theory on Slavic languages. The focus is on the poet Alexander Pushkin, whose authorial intention becomes computationally recoverable. Prose is handled on samples authored by David Lodge, where authorial (in)sincerity (Louw 1993) is viewed on a cline of inspiration and quality of discourse. Other applications in the volume include studies on translation, negotiation, humour, and the reception of CPT.
