Book Description
Poetry is the love of my life. In it, I have learned to let my thoughts flow. It taught me to paint the pictures the world gave me. The poems you will read in this book are those I wrote during my bipolar moments, or should I say, my moments of both uncertainty and contentment. They narrate my path. They paint the beauty of the hills I have traveled, the swampy rivers I have swum in, and the scenic oceans I have sailed. I am where I am today because I believed words held my destiny. Words and I began courting the day I learned how to write. They seduced me, broke my heart, and yet had the power to mend it. For years, I have thought of whether unveiling my life this way would be an efficient way to portray to individuals out there that no matter the turmoil they may encounter, Christ will always be present. I am taking a leap of faith, trusting that through these autobiographical words of mine, God will enable me to penetrate the hearts of his beloved. The purpose of this book is to unveil the love of God through the magical imagery often portrayed through poetry. I think a lot, and I often like to travel through these thoughts. The dimensions I go through teach me, mold me, and thus open my eyes a tad wider. I wish to share my visions particularly with the youth of today. May these words enlighten you as they do me every time I lay eyes on them. May they fortify, transform, and push you to become stronger individuals. May your faith be augmented, your hopes be intensified, and your will to dwell in Christ outshine every other desire you may have. Enjoy, and God bless you all.

Unmasking Autism
Author: Devon Price, PhD
Publisher: Harmony
ISBN: 059323524X
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 228
Book Description
A deep dive into the spectrum of Autistic experience and the phenomenon of masked Autism, giving individuals the tools to safely uncover their true selves while broadening society’s narrow understanding of neurodiversity “A remarkable work that will stand at the forefront of the neurodiversity movement.”—Barry M. Prizant, PhD, CCC-SLP, author of Uniquely Human: A Different Way of Seeing Autism For every visibly Autistic person you meet, there are countless “masked” Autistic people who pass as neurotypical. Masking is a common coping mechanism in which Autistic people hide their identifiably Autistic traits in order to fit in with societal norms, adopting a superficial personality at the expense of their mental health. This can include suppressing harmless stims, papering over communication challenges by presenting as unassuming and mild-mannered, and forcing themselves into situations that cause severe anxiety, all so they aren’t seen as needy or “odd.” In Unmasking Autism, Dr. Devon Price shares his personal experience with masking and blends history, social science research, prescriptions, and personal profiles to tell a story of neurodivergence that has thus far been dominated by those on the outside looking in. For Dr. Price and many others, Autism is a deep source of uniqueness and beauty. Unfortunately, living in a neurotypical world means it can also be a source of incredible alienation and pain. Most masked Autistic individuals struggle for decades before discovering who they truly are. They are also more likely to be marginalized in terms of race, gender, sexual orientation, class, and other factors, which contributes to their suffering and invisibility. Dr. Price lays the groundwork for unmasking and offers exercises that encourage self-expression, including: • Celebrating special interests • Cultivating Autistic relationships • Reframing Autistic stereotypes • And rediscovering your values It’s time to honor the needs, diversity, and unique strengths of Autistic people so that they no longer have to mask—and it’s time for greater public acceptance and accommodation of difference. In embracing neurodiversity, we can all reap the rewards of nonconformity and learn to live authentically, Autistic and neurotypical people alike.

Unmasking the Sexual Offender
Author: Veronique N. Valliere
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1000825248
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 202
Book Description
This book unmasks the sexual offender by providing clear, comprehensible information about the motivations, techniques, and dynamics of sexual offenders and their behavior. It not only explores the biases and myths that the reader may rely upon to understand deviance but also explains pathways to offending, the distorted thinking and relating that offenders engage in, and the ways offenders manipulate and exploit others. Sexual offenders are surrounded by mythology, fascination, and revulsion. People who commit sexual offenses present difficult and complicated issues interpersonally, as well as in treatment and management; denial, victim-blaming, aggression, and blatant chronic deception are inherent in interactions with them. Unfortunately, the failure to truly understand their motives and techniques helps provide excuses for and further camouflage of their deviance. The first part of the text explores the presumptions commonly adopted about sexual offenders and shows how misinformation supports the inappropriate behavior of the sexual offender. The second section focuses on exposing the sexual offender using straightforward language and tangible examples. A final, third section includes safety and management strategies for dealing with sex offenders for those both inside and outside the realms of law enforcement and offender supervision. This book is intended for anyone interested in learning about sexual offenders. It is useful for both professionals and non-professionals, including students, paralegals, victim advocates, and others involved in the criminal justice system or mental health field.

Unmasking Administrative Evil
Author: Guy B. Adams
Publisher: SAGE
ISBN: 9780761906698
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 242
Book Description
Although social scientists generally do not discuss "evil" in an academic setting, there is no denying that it has existed in public administration throughout human history. Hundreds of millions of human beings have died as a direct or indirect consequence of state-sponsored violence. The authors argue that administrative evil, or destructiveness, is part of the identity of all modern public administration (as it is part of psychoanalytic study at the individual level). It goes beyond a superficial critique of public administration and lays the groundwork for a more effective and humane profession.

Unmask Alice
Author: Rick Emerson
Publisher: BenBella Books
ISBN: 1637745184
Category : True Crime
Languages : en
Pages : 385
Book Description
"Unmask Alice by Rick Emerson goes a long way to showing what investigative journalism could be in the right hands . . . this book is undeniably buzzworthy." —Portland Book Review "An absorbing and unnerving read . . . this book demands to be finished in one sitting." —Booklist "One of the must-read books of this century." —Gillian Flynn, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Gone Girl Two teens. Two diaries. Two social panics. One incredible fraud. In 1971, Go Ask Alice reinvented the young adult genre with a blistering portrayal of sex, psychosis, and teenage self-destruction. The supposed diary of a middle-class addict, Go Ask Alice terrified adults and cemented LSD's fearsome reputation, fueling support for the War on Drugs. Five million copies later, Go Ask Alice remains a divisive bestseller, outraging censors and earning new fans, all of them drawn by the book's mythic premise: A Real Diary, by Anonymous. But Alice was only the beginning. In 1979, another diary rattled the culture, setting the stage for a national meltdown. The posthumous memoir of an alleged teenage Satanist, Jay's Journal merged with a frightening new crisis—adolescent suicide—to create a literal witch hunt, shattering countless lives and poisoning whole communities. In reality, Go Ask Alice and Jay's Journal came from the same dark place: Beatrice Sparks, a serial con artist who betrayed a grieving family, stole a dead boy's memory, and lied her way to the National Book Awards. Unmask Alice: LSD, Satanic Panic, and the Imposter Behind the World's Most Notorious Diaries is a true story of contagious deception. It stretches from Hollywood to Quantico, and passes through a tiny patch of Utah nicknamed "the fraud capital of America." It's the story of a doomed romance and a vengeful celebrity. Of a lazy press and a public mob. Of two suicidal teenagers, and their exploitation by a literary vampire. Unmask Alice . . . where truth is stranger than nonfiction.
