Book Description
Classification is a crucial skill for all information workers involved in organizing collections. This new edition offers fully revised and updated guidance on how to go about classifying a document from scratch. Essential Classification leads the novice classifier step by step through the basics of subject cataloguing, with an emphasis on practical document analysis and classification. It deals with fundamental questions of the purpose of classification in different situations, and the needs and expectations of end users. The reader is introduced to the ways in which document content can be assessed, and how this can best be expressed for translation into the language of specific indexing and classification systems. Fully updated to reflect changes to the major general schemes (Library of Congress, LCSH, Dewey and UDC) since the first edition, and with new chapters on working with informal classification, from folksonomies to tagging and social media, this new edition will set cataloguers on the right path. Key areas covered are: - The need for classification - The variety of classification - The structure of classification - Working with informal classification - Management aspects of classification - Classification in digital space. This guide is essential reading for library school students, novice cataloguers and all information workers who need to classify but have not formally been taught how. It also offers practical guidance to computer scientists, internet and intranet managers, and all others concerned with the design and maintenance of subject tools.

Book Description
Note about this ebook: This ebook exploits many advanced capabilities with images, hypertext, and interactivity and is optimized for EPUB3-compliant book readers, especially Apple's iBooks and browser plugins. These features may not work on all ebook readers. We organize things. We organize information, information about things, and information about information. Organizing is a fundamental issue in many professional fields, but these fields have only limited agreement in how they approach problems of organizing and in what they seek as their solutions. The Discipline of Organizing synthesizes insights from library science, information science, computer science, cognitive science, systems analysis, business, and other disciplines to create an Organizing System for understanding organizing. This framework is robust and forward-looking, enabling effective sharing of insights and design patterns between disciplines that weren’t possible before. The Professional Edition includes new and revised content about the active resources of the "Internet of Things," and how the field of Information Architecture can be viewed as a subset of the discipline of organizing. You’ll find: 600 tagged endnotes that connect to one or more of the contributing disciplines Nearly 60 new pictures and illustrations Links to cross-references and external citations Interactive study guides to test on key points The Professional Edition is ideal for practitioners and as a primary or supplemental text for graduate courses on information organization, content and knowledge management, and digital collections. FOR INSTRUCTORS: Supplemental materials (lecture notes, assignments, exams, etc.) are available at http://disciplineoforganizing.org. FOR STUDENTS: Make sure this is the edition you want to buy. There's a newer one and maybe your instructor has adopted that one instead.

Book Description
Cataloging and Classification: Trends, Transformations, Teaching, and Training indicates and describes significant trends in cataloging and classification--the practices, services, management, principles, professional education and training, and employment prospects. This is the resource everyone can use to keep their cataloging and classification skills sharp. It gives librarians and information professionals awareness of important innovations likely to change the way they do their job, enables library directors and managers to do longer-range planning, and provides library school faculty and students with insight into new developments and approaches with which they need to be familiar. Cataloging and Classification: Trends, Transformations, Teaching, and Training will increase your awareness and insight into current developments in the field. In turn, this leads to: an appropriate integration and exploration of technologies, systems, and tools better deployment of personnel and expertise more efficient and relevant user-sensitive cataloging and classification, faster and more effective preparation and searching of catalogs more efficient and relevant library school courses and training sequences greater appreciation by library personnel and library users of the value of catalogs and classifications Cataloging and Classification: Trends, Transformations, Teaching, and Training is presented in three main categories: The Cataloger, The Future of Classification Systems, and New Technology and Its Implications. Specific topics you'll read about include the use of vendor services and nontraditional staff for cataloging; recommendations for a syndetic curricular structure; the call to raise classification and subject analysis to more usable and sophisticated levels; an action agenda for technical services in the digital age; and an evaluation of the capabilities of OPACs made possible by advances in technology.

Book Description
Simplified Facial Rejuvenation is divided into sections that include anatomy and anesthesia, classifications, dermatologic procedures, suture lifts, surgical variations of the face, surgical variations of the eyes, brow, neck, lips, nose ear, and scalp, and medical legal aspects. The book presents multiple variations of suture lift procedures to allow the physician to decide which is best. Unique surgical procedures of the face are presented, many of which are techniques of minimal incision facelift. The book brings together the more popular procedures for patients that include simpler methods of facial rejuvenation with less pain, shorter recovery time, lower cost, and fewer complications.

Book Description
Lie groups and their "derived objects", Lie algebras, appear in various fields of mathematics and physics. At least since the beginning of the 20th century, and after the famous works of Wilhelm Killing, Elie Cartan, Eugenio Elia Levi, Anatoly Malcev and Igor Ado on the structure of finite-dimensional Lie algebras, the classification and structure theory of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras has become an interesting and fairly vast field of interest. This dissertation focusses on the structure of Lie algebras of smooth and k-times differentiable sections of finite-dimensional Lie algebra bundles, which are generalizations of the famous and well-understood affine Kac-Moody algebras. Besides answering the immediate structural questions (center, commutator algebra, derivations, centroid, automorphism group), this work approaches a classification of section algebras by homotopy theory. Furthermore, we determine a universal invariant symmetric bilinear form on Lie algebras of smooth sections and use this form to define a natural central extension which is universal, at least in the case of Lie algebra bundles with compact base manifold.
