UN MODELE COUPLE SIMPLIFIE OCEAN DE SURFACE - ATMOSPHERE DEJA EXISTANT AU LMD A ETE ADAPTE ICI POUR FAIRE UN OUTIL STRICTEMENT COMPARABLE AU MODELE COUPLE GLOBAL DE L'IPSL. UNE ANALYSE COMPAREE DES SIMULATIONS CLIMATIQUES CONDUITES AVEC CES 2 MODELES COUPLES OCEAN-ATMOSPHERE PARALLELES, UTILISANT LE MEME MODELE D'ATMOSPHERE, MAIS DES MODELES D'OCEAN DE COMPLEXITE DIFFERENTES, NOUS A PERMIS DE METTRE EN EVIDENCE DES BIAIS SYSTEMATIQUES COMMUNS, QUI PAR AILLEURS SONT PRESENTS EGALEMENT DANS D'AUTRES MODELES CLIMATIQUES (KIEHL, 1998). IL S'AGIT D'UN REFROIDISSEMENT DU BASSIN PACIFIQUE TROPICAL OUEST ET D'UN ASSECHEMENT DU PACIFIQUE CENTRAL QUI S'ACCOMPAGNE DE LA PENETRATION D'UNE LANGUE D'EAU FROIDE DEPUIS L'EST DU BASSIN. CE BIAIS SE MARQUE AUSSI PAR UN REFROIDISSEMENT DE LA HAUTE TROPOSPHERE TROPICALE AU DESSUS DE 30\ S. AFIN DE DEGAGER LE ROLE DE L'ATMOSPHERE DANS LA DERIVE THERMIQUE TROPICALE DU CLIMAT SIMULE, NOUS AVONS FAIT DES EXPERIENCES DE SENSIBILITE DONT NOUS PENSONS QU'ELLES AFFECTENT NOTABLEMENT L'ENERGETIQUE DE LA HAUTE TROPOSPHERE. CES EXPERIENCES DE SENSIBILITE CONCERNENT : LES NUAGES HAUTS DE GLACE, LA REPRESENTATION DE LA CONVECTION ET LE TAUX D'OZONE DES HAUTES COUCHES ATMOSPHERIQUES. LES RESULTATS DE CES SIMULATIONS NOUS PERMETTENT DE SUGGERER QUE LA DERIVE THERMIQUE TROPICALE A LA SURFACE DE L'OCEAN EST CONTROLEE PAR UN DESEQUILIBRE ENERGETIQUE AU SOMMET DE L'ATMOSPHERE. LA TRANSMISSION DE CES BIAIS A LA SURFACE DE L'OCEAN EST ENSUITE FAITE PAR LES BRANCHES DE SUBSIDENCE DES CELLULES DE HADLEY-WALKER. CETTE ANALYSE DES RETROACTIONS ATMOSPHERIQUES EST COMPLETEE PAR UNE ETUDE DES TRANSPORTS ATMOSPHERIQUES D'ENERGIE (TAE). NOUS VALIDONS LES TAE SIMULES PAR LE MCGA DU LMD PAR RAPPORT AUX TRANSPORTS DERIVES DES REANALYSES DE L'ECMWF ET NOUS NOUS INTERESSONS ENSUITE A LA VARIATION DE CES TRANSPORTS DANS UN CHANGEMENT CLIMATIQUE. POUR LES DIFFERENTS TYPES D'ENERGIE, LA REPONSE DU TRANSPORT ATMOSPHERIQUE D'ENERGIE A UNE MODIFICATION PRESCRITE DES TEMPERATURES DE SURFACE DE L'OCEAN CORRESPONDANT A UN 2CO 2 EST DIRECTEMENT LIEE AU GRADIENT THERMIQUE EQUATEUR-TROPIQUES. CEPENDANT, LES VARIATIONS DES DIFFERENTS TERMES D'ENERGIE SE COMPENSENT PARTIELLEMENT AU NIVEAU DU TRANSPORT D'ENERGIE STATIQUE HUMIDE. L'ANALYSE EN TERME DE DIVERGENCE DU TRANSPORT ATMOSPHERIQUE D'ENERGIE PERMET DE QUANTIFIER L'IMPORTANCE DES RETROACTIONS DYNAMIQUES PAR RAPPORT AUX RETROACTIONS RADIATIVES. LE TRANSPORT D'ENERGIE STATIQUE HUMIDE VARIE DE 10-20 WM 2 ; CES VARIATIONS SONT DU MEME ORDRE DE GRANDEUR QUE LES VARIATIONS DES FLUX RADIATIFS INDUITES A LA TROPOPAUSE DANS UNE EXPERIENCE DE 2CO 2. PAR CONTRE, LES VARIATIONS AU NIVEAU DES DIFFERENTS TYPES D'ENERGIE SONT D'UN ORDRE DE GRANDEUR PLUS IMPORTANTES. ENFIN, NOUS MONTRONS QUE LA COMPOSANTE HYDROLOGIQUE DU TAE EST AFFECTEE PAR LA PARAMETRISATION DU PROCESSUS DE PRECIPITATIONS.

Book Description

Flexible Global Ocean-Atmosphere-Land System Model
Author: Tianjun Zhou
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642418015
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 468
Book Description
Coupled climate system models are of central importance for climate studies. A new model known as FGOALS ( the Flexible Global Ocean-Atmosphere-Land System model), has been developed by the Sate Key Laboratory of Numerical Modeling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (LASG/IAP, CAS), a first-tier national geophysical laboratory. It serves as a powerful tool, both for deepening our understanding of fundamental mechanisms of the climate system and for making decadal prediction and scenario projections of future climate change. "Flexible Global Ocean-Atmosphere-Land System Model: A Modeling Tool for the Climate Change Research Community” is the first book to offer systematic evaluations of this model’s performance. It is comprehensive in scope, covering both developmental and application-oriented aspects of this climate system model. It also provides an outlook of future development of FGOALS and offers an overview of how to employ the model. It represents a valuable reference work for researchers and professionals working within the related areas of climate variability and change. Prof. Tianjun Zhou, Yongqiang Yu, Yimin Liu and Bin Wang work at LASG, the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China.

Atmosphere-ocean Modeling: Coupling And Couplers
Author: Carlos Roberto Mechoso
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9811232954
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 203
Book Description
Coupled atmosphere-ocean models are at the core of numerical climate models. There is an extraordinarily broad class of coupled atmosphere-ocean models ranging from sets of equations that can be solved analytically to highly detailed representations of Nature requiring the most advanced computers for execution. The models are applied to subjects including the conceptual understanding of Earth's climate, predictions that support human activities in a variable climate, and projections aimed to prepare society for climate change. The present book fills a void in the current literature by presenting a basic and yet rigorous treatment of how the models of the atmosphere and the ocean are put together into a coupled system. The text of the book is divided into chapters organized according to complexity of the components that are coupled. Two full chapters are dedicated to current efforts on the development of generalist couplers and coupling methodologies all over the world.
