Book Description
Learn about the history of Uluru, also known as Ayres Rock, in Australia with iMinds Travel's insightful fast knowledge series. Uluru is the indigenous Australian name for an enormous rock formation found in central Australia. Made from sandstone, Uluru is a rock monolith or an 'island mountain', a formation that geologists refer to as a monadnock. It stands 318 m (986 ft) high and has a circumference of 8 km (5 miles). It is located 335 km (208 mi) south west of the nearest rural centre, the large town of Alice Springs. The site was first mapped by Europeans in 1872 during the construction of the Australian Overland Telegraph Line that linked the northern settlement of Darwin to Port Augusta in South Australia. Uluru was originally named Mount Olga by Ernest Giles. On a separate expedition in 1870, the explorer William Gosse renamed the formation Ayers Rock in honour of the Chief Secretary of South Australia, Sir Henry Ayers. The name was made official until 1992, when it was renamed Uluru/Ayers Rock as an official dual title, honouring both the European and Aboriginal names. Uluru is, as Ernest Giles referred to it in 1872, the world's "most remarkable pebble." iMinds will tell you the story behind the place with its innovative travel series, transporting the armchair traveller or getting you in the mood for discover on route to your destination. iMinds brings targeted knowledge to your eReading device with short information segments to whet your mental appetite and broaden your mind.

Book Description
“When the Spirit of Adventure Calls to our Heart, we must go.” This quote, written in memory of Mark Auricht who died on Mt Everest in 2001, reminds us of our enduring connection with nature and the magnetic attraction of adventure. It not only enlivens our soul, but also has the power to draw from within us, a strength, courage, resilience and passion that for some lies dormant until awakened. Beyond the story of triumph and tragedy in the Himalayan landscape, this book is also about the journey that takes place within us, when we explore the limits of our self-imposed boundaries to find the hidden treasures of our heart. As the world enters a time of unprecedented change, we must evolve new ways of thinking, living, learning and leading that will help us to navigate the challenging terrain of this new frontier. May this heart-felt tribute to the enduring spirit of Mark Auricht, serve as an inspiration and a compass for future leaders, adventurous souls and explorers of human potential.

Book Description
After expressing my doubts and fears about leaving my comfort zone on the Gold Coast, in order to venture the road in an ageing motorhome in unfamiliar territory for an undefined destination, I reflected on that last long journey. We had experienced breakdowns, bad weather, boredom, relentless distance, but also saw breathtaking scenery, interesting people and the delight of the changing panorama day by day. There were times though when I wanted to get the next flight home. After our first adventure nineteen months ago, we felt ready for the road again. On our last journey we never got further than Melbourne, encountering the winter weather down south after a hot journey down the coast of New South Wales, We had scurried back north to the tropics in North Queensland having been too used to the warmer climate of Queensland. This time we decided to do ‘The Big Lap’ by road from Queensland up north through to the Northern Territory and coastal Western Australia, coastal South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and back to Queensland’s Gold Coast - anticlockwise. It is better to travel this direction from east to west to take advantage of prevailing winds, avoid ‘The Big Wet’ monsoon weather up north and get back down south before the onset of the northern Summer. We have included fifty color photos from our collection together with maps and a listing of the road route taken. This diary commences with a short trip to Queensland’s Sunshine Coast with a stop on the Gold Coast. The big journey took us up to Rockhampton and across central Queensland via Longreach and Mt. Isa. We continued down to Tennant Creek in Northern Territory to Uluru, then back up via Katherine to Darwin. From Darwin we travelled back down to Katherine across to Western Australia’s Kununurra, and Broome down the coast to Perth, Margaret River and Bremer Bay on the south coast. This completed the first part of the lap around Australia. Diary 3 completes the second half of ‘The Big Lap’ back to Queensland and exploration of Tasmania. Book Description
A novel in two parts Part I: Je Louse, 1999 "Beware of ex-lovers with quills", warns the preface of Elliot Bernard's new novel Je Louse. Blaise spent six torrid years with the world-famous novelist, but left him for Woodrow. Now it would seem that Elliot Bernard lives happily with another man in New York. But could the author be seeking revenge upon his previous lover in his latest roman à clef? Blaise feels compelled to read the book — however painful it may prove to be — and his jealous lover doesn't like it one bit, no sir-ee. But neither Blaise nor Woodrow know what lies in store for them. Sometimes books can change your life forever; some can even blow your mind. Je Louse is going to do a nice job of both. Part II: Gridiron, 2004 Seventy-year-old Rose Elliot sits in her son's apartment contemplating the release of his autobiography. Rose never wanted to be in a book, but like it or not, she's in this one. She's a simple country woman who never quite fathomed why the Lord blessed her with a son like Elliot Bernard. Cake baking and needlepoint are much more her forté. "I think Gridiron was his greatest achievement", someone says with a laugh. Rose overhears and wonders what they're talking about. She couldn't remember a book with that title, and Elliot always hated sport as a boy. Having a son who wrote books like Elliot's has not been an easy thing for Rose. Still, she'd like to know more about Gridiron. Be careful Rose — there are some things a mother has the right not to know. Gridiron is one of those things.
