The large volume of ultrasonic data generated by computer-aided test procedures has necessitated the development of a mobile, high-speed data acquisition and storage system. This approach offers the decided advantage of on-site data collection and remote data processing. It also utilizes standard, commercially available ultrasonic instrumentation. This system is controlled by an Intel 8080A microprocessor. The MCS80-SDK microcomputer board was chosen, and magnetic tape is used as the storage medium. A detailed description is provided of both the hardware and software developed to interface the magnetic tape storage subsystem to Biomation 8100 and Biomation 805 waveform recorders. A boxcar integrator acquisition system is also described for use when signal averaging becomes necessary. Both assembly language and machine language listings are provided for the software.

[ANGLĂS] Ultrasonic systems are widely used in industrial and medical imaging applications for diagnosis, nondestructive evaluation (NDE), defect recognition and classification. These applications require large amounts of data to be processed in real-time using computationally intensive signal processing algorithms. A Reconfigurable Ultrasonic System-on-Chip Hardware (RUSH) platform has been conceived to allow flexibility in system development for real-time ultrasonic signal processing applications via hardware/software co-design. In this project, a Graphical User Interface (GUI) has been developed for the RUSH platform, in order to allow users to visualize ultrasonic captures of A, B and C scans and to manage the system configuration. A customized multi-platform client-server for the SoC has been implemented in C++, using Qt, QWT and OpenGL libraries.

A minicomputer-based ultrasonic data acquisition and display system is described. The system consists of a PDP-11 minicomputer with peripheral modules necessary to program the computer, control a test, acquire data, store data, analyze and display data. An ultrasonic data acquisition interface module and a general purpose test control and data acquisition interface module are generally described. A number of computerized ultrasonic data displays of pulse echo flaw data, relative attenuation, and ultrasonic velocity data for a flywheel constructed of a Kevlar--Epoxy composite are included to illustrate the capabilities of the system in ultrasonically characterizing a material. 7 figures.
