Book Description
How can love letters from a World War I correspondence still be relevant? After abruptly leaving college, Samantha Schuyler sets out to find an answer on her sojourn to Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Finishing a tour in Iraq, Coastie Kyle Kincaid settles into civilian life. While touring the art district, Sam stops at a quaint coffeehouse and encounters Kyle Kincaid. Integrous, Kyle is determined to earn her trust. Vulnerable, Sam is determined to keep her darkest secret hidden until love’s tenderness softens her resolve. Inspired by Sam rekindling her passion for art, Kyle renews his passion for politics. While Kyle gets closer to realizing his dream, Sam faces her worst nightmare, returning to the place she fears most. In a cruel twist of fate, Kyle finds himself torn between the life he leads and a life without Sam. Shattered dreams and broken trust are the obstacles on the path to forgiveness. If romance is a buoy, then redemption is an anchor. The words that have the power to trade yesterday’s hurt for tomorrow’s hope can be found in unexpected places. Through God’s grace and mercy, life can surprise us with the rarest of blues.

Texas Blues allows artists to speak in their own words, revealing the dynamics of blues, from its beginnings in cotton fields and shotgun shacks to its migration across boundaries of age and race to seize the musical imagination of the entire world. Fully illustrated with 495 dramatic, high-quality color and black-and-white photographs—many never before published—Texas Blues provides comprehensive and authoritative documentation of a musical tradition that has changed contemporary music. Award-winning documentary filmmaker and author Alan Govenar here builds on his previous groundbreaking work documenting these musicians and their style with the stories of 110 of the most influential artists and their times. From Blind Lemon Jefferson and Aaron “T-Bone” Walker of Dallas, to Delbert McClinton in Fort Worth, Sam “Lightnin’” Hopkins in East Texas, Baldemar (Freddie Fender) Huerta in South Texas, and Stevie Ray Vaughan in Austin, Texas Blues shows the who, what, where, and how of blues in the Lone Star State.

Book Description
This volume is one of several that examines the National Gallery of Art's distinguished collection of decorative arts. (The second volume will be published in 1996.) The group treated here is composed primarily of works acquired from the Widener Collection, and amplified by holdings acquired from the Kress family. Included are more than eighty Medieval, Renaissance, and later historic objects in a wide variety of media, encompassing metalwork, stained glass, enamels, ceramics, and jewels. Among the highlights are a Limoges reliquary chasse, a Mosan lion aquamanile, thirty-eight pieces in a remarkable cohesive group of Italian maiolica, three of the very rare pottery objects known as 'Saint-Porchaire', and, the centerpiece of the collection, the Suger chalice, an ancient sardonyx cup to which the Abbot Suger added a bejewelled golden setting in the twelfth century. Like other volumes in the Systematic Catalogue of the National Gallery of Art Collections,Western Decorative Arts includes a thoroughly researched entry for each object, together with an artist biography, up-to-date bibliography, and a technical analysis.
