Book Description
Tubby is a Tabby. He is orange with stripes of ginger; like a tiger cub. But he is chubby and his tail is a stub. He has a few peculiar daily habits. One example is his sleeping habit. He only sleeps on a red bed or sleeps on a mat to show he is fat. He has a weird feeding habit too; he is fed with a spoon every day at noon. He also likes to scratch on rugs and licks on mugs. Since he is fat and chubby, he seldom jumps but he often bumps on tables, chairs and even wooden stairs. Those strange behaviours define his presence at home. Every time he does those habits, his owners (a boy and a girl) will always say, You silly cat, and give him a tickle to make him happy. He loves to be tickled as it makes him feel tingly. But one fine day, by choice or by chance, the owners began to question his presence. They soon realised that he was no longer around. So, they searched high and low, and moved fast and slow. Then, they found a clue; a toppled bottle of glue. From the glue bottle, they spotted a trail. They followed the trail patiently, moving quickly but looking carefully until they came to a juncture. Their squinty eyes popped and they laughed when they saw Tubby. Tubby had glue all over its body. He was stuck between the rug and the floor, just behind the bedroom door. He asked for help by making a pitiful face with his eyes widened, as the glue had somewhat hardened. Without wasting any time, they lifted him and paced towards the tub. They turned on the shower and sprayed him with water. He became wet, his fur was shrivelling and he was shivering. They quickly dried him up and brought him out of the tub. This misadventure made him tired. He tip-toed to the nearest mat, yawned and fell down flat. This rhyming story is like a jingle. It hopes to teach children about empathy and appreciation by highlighting the special chemistry between children and cats. It has a funny and fun-loving storyline, which will make children say, awww in the end. It is filled with simple yet expressive illustrations that allow your children to be their own storyteller and learn about different feelings.

Book Description
A heart-rending memoir of love, loss and the unique relationship twins share. More than thirty years ago, David Loftus’s cherished identical twin, John, passed away. Ever since, a day hasn’t passed without David feeling the loss. In 1987, after recovering from a brain tumour, John contracted meningitis and found himself back in hospital for treatment. David, as always, was by his side. They were opening their twenty-fourth birthday presents when a fatally miscalculated routine injection forced John into a coma. He died within two weeks. Over the past year, David has spent an hour every day remembering John and recording his story by hand. Diary of a Lone Twin is the product of that daily ritual – a powerful and deeply personal account that covers everything from enchanting and charmingly evoked childhood vignettes to the acute loneliness and raw pain that followed John’s death. In sharing this beautifully written diary, award-winning and internationally acclaimed photographer David Loftus provides a rare insight for anyone who wishes to understand the bond between identical twins, and the unique bereavement of a lone twin that few people will ever experience.

Book Description
Entertaining and informative, Pets in America is a portrait of Americans' relationships with the cats, dogs, birds, fishes, rodents, and other animals we call our own. More than 60 percent of U.S. households have pets, and America grows more pet-friendly every day. But as Katherine C. Grier demonstrates, the ways we talk about and treat our pets--as companions, as children, and as objects of beauty, status, or pleasure--have their origins long ago. Grier begins with a natural history of animals as pets, then discusses the changing role of pets in family life, new standards of animal welfare, the problems presented by borderline cases such as livestock pets, and the marketing of both animals and pet products. She focuses particularly on the period between 1840 and 1940, when the emotional, behavioral, and commercial characteristics of contemporary pet keeping were established. The story is filled with the warmth and humor of anecdotes from period diaries, letters, catalogs, and newspapers. Filled with illustrations reflecting the whimsy, the devotion, and the commerce that have shaped centuries of American pet keeping, Pets in America ultimately shows how the history of pets has evolved alongside changing ideas about human nature, child development, and community life. This book accompanies a museum exhibit, "Pets in America," which opens at the McKissick Museum in Columbia, South Carolina, in December 2005 and will travel to five other cities from May 2006 through May 2008.
