Book Description
A lifelong pattern of use and abuse finally caught up with Dr. A. C. Gross when she was forty-three years old. She had been using drugs and alcohol to fix herself for as long as she could remember. Now, in You Can Trust MeIm a Doctor, Gross shares the story of her addiction and her journey to recovery. In this memoir, she describes growing up in a respectable, middle-class, Californian household where she was introduced to alcohol at a young age. She had her first taste of alcohol at age nine and first experienced being drunk at age fourteen. During her twenties, Gross tells how she continued to drink and experiment with drugs despite her rigorous studies. With her compulsive personality, excessive drinking and reckless use of pills became a constant part of everyday life. In 2004, with her physicians career in jeopardy and her family life unraveling, Gross was forced to seek help. Recovery was her next step, but it was not easy. She narrates how it took her nearly ten months to realize that recovery involved surrender of the old self to the will of God. You Can Trust MeIm a Doctor tells Grosss story of learning a new way of life.

Book Description
Eve Shapiro has been writing about patient-centered care, physician–patient communication, and relationships between doctors and their patients since 2007. In Joy in Medicine? What 100 Healthcare Professionals Have to Say about Job Satisfaction, Dissatisfaction, Burnout, and Joy, Eve turns her attention to those on the healthcare delivery side of this "sacred interaction." These healthcare professionals share their enthusiasm, joys, frustrations, disappointments, insights, advice, stories, fears, and pain, explaining how it looks and feels to work in healthcare today no matter who you are, where you work, or what your position is in the organizational hierarchy. The healthcare professionals who provide patient care deserve our collective interest in their humanity. Without some insight into who they are and the forces with which they struggle every day, we cannot fully appreciate the obstacles to providing the care we all want for ourselves and our families during the best of times, let alone in the uncertain times that lie ahead.

Book Description
My name is Desiree. Yes, I was married and divorced three times. and each divorce, I asked for my maiden name back. I am a mother of two daughters and have eight adult grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. I'm taking this time out in my life to write my story because there are so many children and adults crying out for help. They cannot afford Dr. Phil or Oprah or trust anyone enough to talk to them. At one point of time, I tried to reach out to both of them and hit a dead end each time. I always wondered how people get in touch with them. Twenty-five or more years ago, I started writing Oprah a letter when she had Ms. Erica Kane and all of the All My Children husbands on her show with her. the letter turned into a book! So I never tried to send it. I called it Will the Real Erica Kane Please Stand Up. (All the Men I Loved.) Not who loved me because I really can't tell who loved me. My journey took me to hell and back. Through all of my trials and tribulations, I had to come back to Jesus. When he said, "I will never leave nor forsake you," he meant just that. It gets hard sometimes to believe it, but when you keep hitting a brick wall and facing death in the face so many times, you start wondering, why am I still here? It's not as though we can stand in a line and pick our race or our mother and father. Wow! Would life be any different? Believe me--it's only by the grace of God that any of us are still here. We all have a purpose for being on this earth. My belief is my purpose is to encourage others to believe in yourself and trust that God really does have your back no matter what the devil throw your way. As the song says, "He paid it all." Meaning, Jesus paid for all of our sins, and I thank him for allowing me to be alive long enough to acknowledge that. So here's my story.
