Why do some places—the concourse of Grand Central Terminal or a small farm or even the corner of a skyscraper—affect us so mysteriously and yet so forcefully? What tiny changes in our everyday environments can radically alter the quality of our daily lives? The Experience of Place offers an innovative and delightfully readable proposal for new ways of planning, building, and managing our most immediate and overlooked surroundings.

Book Description
Eventscapes: Transforming Place, Space and Experiences directly examines the interrelation between events’ simultaneous dependence on and transformation of the places in which they are held. This event–environment nexus is analysed through a variety of international case studies including different kinds of well-known sporting and cultural events such as Vivid Sydney, the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and the Tour Down Under international cycle race, among others. Chapters focusing on visual design explore the opportunities, at different spatial scales, to develop an event ‘look’ and the ways in which an event experience can be enhanced through connecting and engaging with the local culture and community. As well as the planning and management of events, the book draws on event experience, dramaturgically examining the roles played by authors, actors and the audience, and emphasises the participation of multiple groups in the co-creation of event experiences. This will be invaluable reading for those studying events and the environment. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, it also draws on geography, urban and cultural studies, image studies, architecture and design, environmental psychology, and event management, and will be of use to a broad academic audience.

Book Description
Place and orientation are important aspects of human experience. Place evokes geography and culture and conjures up history and myth. Place is not only a particular physical location but an idea, a mental construction that captures and directs the human relationship to the world. The distinguished contributors to this volume invite us to reflect on the significance of places, real and imagined, in the religious traditions they study and on how places are known, imagined, remembered, and struggled for. Whether looking at the ways myth and ritual reinforce the Yoruba's bond to the land or at Australian Aboriginal engagements with the origins of the created world, exploring Hildegard of Bingen's experience of heaven or myths of the underworld in contemporary American millennialism, listening to oral narratives of divine politics and deserted places of Rajasthan or investigating literal and literary images of the Promised Land, these essays underscore that place is constructed in the intersection of material conditions, political realities, narrative, and ritual performance.

There are three transforming experiences that God has made available to every believer. It is His will that we fully enter into all three experiences. If we do not enter into all three transforming experiences, we will not fully experience all that God has for us. One experience transforms our spirits. Another transforms our souls, and the third experience transforms our bodies. We must experience all three in order to be fully transformed into the image of Christ. These three transforming experiences are essential in order to prepare you to fully participate in God's end-time plan.

Book Description
While the "sense of place" is a familiar theme in poetry and art, philosophers have generally given little or no attention to place and the human relation to place. Jeff Malpas seeks to remedy this by advancing an account of the nature and significance of place as a complex but unitary structure that encompasses self and other, space and time, subjectivity and objectivity. He argues that our relation to place derives from the very nature of human thought, experience and identity as established in and through place.

Book Description
Houses in Motion: The Experience of Place and the Problem of Belief in Urban Malaysia is about the transformation of urban space and the reordering of the demographic character of Brickfields, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Kuala Lumpur. Baxstrom offers an ethnographic account of the complex attempts on the part of the state and the community to reconcile techno-rational conceptions of law, development, and city planning with local experiences of place, justice, relatedness, and possibilities for belief in an aggressively changing world. The book combines classic methods of anthropological research and an engagement with the work of theorists such as Gilles Deleuze and Henri Lefebvre, and moves beyond previous studies of Southeast Asian cities by linking larger conceptual issues of ethics, belief, and experience to the concrete trajectories of everyday urban life in the region.
