Book Description
Immersed in Paradise is the story of a beautiful young woman torn between love and an ambition to serve humanity. Her relationship with her high school sweet heart had endured, even though they were separated during college, and, after graduation three months before September 11, 2001, they each found jobs in law enforcement in Washington. All went well for two years, until Chuck accepted an appointment to become a Federal Agent at Fort Story. Reluctant to be separated, but not ready for marriage, she requested a transfer to work in Norfolk, and secured unpaid leave to attend a language school in Cost a Rica to think things over during his training. While in Central America, she traveled extensively, bonded with her host family, and disappointed several male admirers. She worked with disadvanted children, sometimes with heart-rending results, and was overwhelmed by the impact of poverty on them, and those she saw while traveling. When her visa expired, she returned home with a greater appreciation of her life, and would forever cherish her memories of the surrogate family of charismatic Italians who had taken her into their home and their hearts!

Successful implementation requires a thorough understanding o

Book Description
This book covers the principal topics in applied mechanics for professional trainees studying Merchant Navy Marine Engineering Certificates of Competency (CoC) as well as the core syllabi in applied mechanics for undergraduates studying for BSc, BEng and MEng degrees in marine engineering, naval architecture and other marine technology related programmes. This new edition has been fully updated to reflect the recent changes to the Merchant Navy syllabus and current pathways to a sea-going engineering career, specifically the increased emphasis that has been placed on colleges and universities now responsible for the academic requirements for those studying for a career in marine engineering. In particular this means the book has been updated to include more information about the general principles and applications of the exercises in the practical world of marine engineering. Each chapter has fully worked examples interwoven into the text, with test examples set at the end of each chapter. Other revisions include examples reflecting modern machines and practice, current legislation and current syllabi.

Book Description
Workers in the field of corrosion and their students are most fortunate that a happy set of circumstances brought Dr. Marcel Pourbaix into their field in 1949. First, he was invited, while in the USA, to demonstrate at a two week visit to the National Bureau of Standards the usefulness of his electro chemical concepts to the study of corrosion. Secondly, also around the same time, Prof. H. H. Uhlig made a speech before the United Nations which pointed out the tremendous economic consequences of corrosion. Because of these circumstances, Dr. Pourbaix has reminisced, he chose to devote most of his efforts to corrosion rather than to electrolysis, batteries, geology, or any of the other fields where, one might add, they were equally valuable. This decision resulted in his establishing CEBELCOR (Centre BeIge d'Etude de la Corrosion) and in his development of a course at the Free University of Brussels entitled "Lectures on Electrochemical Corrosion." This book is the collection of these lectures translated into English.

Book Description
This book addresses the latest research advances, innovations, and applications in the field of urban drainage and water management as presented by leading researchers, scientists and practitioners from around the world at the 11th International Conference on Urban Drainage Modelling (UDM), held in Palermo, Italy from 23 to 26 September, 2018. The conference was promoted and organized by the University of Palermo, Italy and the International Working Group on Data and Models, with the support of four of the world’s leading organizations in the water sector: the International Water Association (IWA), International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), Environmental & Water Resources Institute (EWRI) - ASCE, and the International Environmental Modelling and Software Society (iEMSs). The topics covered are highly diverse and include drainage and impact mitigation, water quality, rainfall in urban areas, urban hydrologic and hydraulic processes, tools, techniques and analysis in urban drainage modelling, modelling interactions and integrated systems, transport and sewer processes (incl. micropollutants and pathogens), and water management and climate change. The conference’s primary goal is to offer a forum for promoting discussions amongst scientists and professionals on the interrelationships between the entire water cycle, environment and society.
