The original; correspondence course had its beginnings in the 1980s and has evolved to the present production with the addition of digital illustrations, desk cams and Skype. The course books are designed to provide the detailed information needed for repairing clocks and replacing worn or lost parts such as gears, other parts of the mechanism, worn pivots and pivot holes. Twelve of the books include exercises covering invisible bushing, pivot making and refurbishing, simple turning, repairing and mounting gear wheels, accurate filing, the design and making of the various parts of a rack striking mechanism and escapement correction and design.
