Book Description
There comes a time when something or someone in our life gives us the opportunity to look back at our younger self with a different pair of eyes. A more mature version of ourselves stands in the mirror with the ability to articulate the things we could not explain but believed way back then. I invite you to join me on a profound journey of self-reflection and growth as I explore the intricate relationship between my past and present selves. Me, the married woman who looks back at… me, my single self, examining how my actions and beliefs of my younger years shaped the person I am today. In my case, my someone is my daughter. I was a teen mom who grew up with her, and I made plenty of mistakes and miscommunicated so many of my intentions. Now, happily married during her adult life, I’m able to recognize that there was so much that I did get right. Our relationship, marked by disagreements and periods of silence, ultimately became a testament to the enduring bond between a mother and child. Even still, the change in my relationship status caused some confusion when she began to express that the married version of me had forgotten what it’s like to be single. Oh, on the contrary! I wrote this book to speak about the things that I so deeply believed but could not say when I was single and in survival mode. I didn’t have the words yet and certainly couldn’t express them to her as a child. This is a tribute to my younger self and in honor of my daughter. Through all the complexities of being a teen mom and raising her while navigating the chaotic waters of youth and motherhood, my daughter became a pivotal character in this journey. Her presence and influence provide a mirror through which I can see my younger self with new eyes. It is through her that the I learned to speak my truth and impart the wisdom I held close to my heart as a young single woman. Without delving into the specifics of our most intimate moments, I use my narrative to offer a powerful message about self-acceptance and the continuity of identity. My message is simply that our past and present selves are not disparate entities but parts of a whole, intricately woven together to form the person we are meant to be. Therefore, our relationship status can’t define us or compartmentalize our person. Through my own reflection, I pray that readers are encouraged to view themselves as complete and unbroken, regardless of your past circumstances. I invite you to appreciate every facet of your existence, recognizing that each experience, no matter how challenging, contributes to the wholeness of your being. May this be an inspiring reminder that we are, and always have been, complete in the eyes of God, urging us to embrace our journey and see ourselves as one unified person.

7 Myths about Singleness
Author: Sam Allberry
Publisher: Crossway
ISBN: 1433561557
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 170
Book Description
If marriage shows us the shape of the gospel, singleness shows us its sufficiency. Much of what we commonly assume about singleness—that it is primarily about the absence of good things like intimacy, family, or meaningful ministry—is either flat-out untrue or, at the very least, shouldn’t be true. To be single, we often think, is to be alone and spiritually hindered. But the Bible paints a very different picture of singleness: it is a positive gift and blessing from God. This book seeks to help Christians—married and unmarried alike—value singleness as a gift from God so that we can all encourage singles to take hold of the unique opportunities their singleness affords and see their role in the flourishing of the church as a whole.

Conversations on Love
Author: Natasha Lunn
Publisher: Penguin
ISBN: 0593296583
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 321
Book Description
An investigation of love in all its forms, featuring conversations with Lisa Taddeo, Esther Perel, Emily Nagoski, Kate Bowler, Alain de Botton, Stephen Grosz, Roxane Gay and others Journalist Natasha Lunn was almost 30 when she realized that there was no map for understanding love. While she was used to watching friends fall in and out of love, the older she got the more she had to acknowledge: her friends' relationship struggles could no longer be chalked up to youth, and the more she learned about her parents, grandparents, work colleagues, and mentors the clearer it became that age had not brought any of them any closer to understanding this elusive, transformative, consuming emotion. One night during the months she found this realization settling over her, she sat up in bed and jotted three words in a notebook: conversations on love. In that moment, Lunn understood that she didn't want advice about love, she wasn't looking for the answers, or evergreen wisdom but she craved candid, wide-ranging, sometimes uncomfortable conversations about the parts of love that often don't make it into our everyday discussions of marriage, sibling relationships, friendships, or mother/daughter bonds. Conversations on Love started as an experiment aimed at interviewing experts about what love meant to them, in all of it's messiness, and quickly blossomed into a newsletter that attracted thousands of subscribers and a prestigious range of interviewees. It turns out that Lunn wasn't the only person ready to talk more openly and expansively about love. Interweaving personal essays and revealing interviews with some of the most sough-after experts on love, journalist Natasha Lunn guides us through the paradoxical heart of three key questions about love--How do we find love? How do we sustain it? And how do we survive when we lose it?--to deliver a book that is a solace, a beacon, a call to arms, a tool-kit. The real-life love stories in these pages will leave you hopeful and validated, while the insights from experts will transform the way you think about your relationships. Above all, Conversations on Love will remind you what love is: fragile, sturdy, mundane, beautiful, always worth fighting for.

ISBN: 1788039378
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 168
Book Description
Sam Opeche didn’t know his mum until he turned 19. His parents were divorced when he was just six. Something always told him that growing up wouldn’t have been so difficult if his parents had stayed together. He found that there’s his dad’s side of the story, his mum’s side of the story, and then there’s the truth. Since then, a lot of his time has been spent on trying to search for the truth. Could his parent’s divorce have been prevented or was it inevitable? Could there have been something different in the mix that may have helped them weather the storms, or could it be that they were just not made for each other? It wasn’t until years later, as he faced up to his own personal challenges in marriage, that it dawned on him what the solution could have been. ‘Don’t Get Married Until You Are Single’, but if you are married already, seek singleness and self-love and your marriage will blossom to new dimensions of fulfilment.
