Book Description
This is a book of historical fiction. The story is loosely based on the life of my great-great-grandmother. The story spans one hundred years of Irish history. Connie, the main character in the book, lived through every year of the twentieth century. Connie was born in Belfast, North Ireland, in the year of 1900 and passed in the year of 2000. Connie lived through both the First and the Second World Wars. Connie also lived through what became known as the troubles in North Ireland. Hence the title, Connies Wars. Connie was born into an extremely wealthy family. It would be fair to say that Connie lived a life of privilege, wanting for nothing throughout her early years. As a child, Connie was taught by both her mother and father that to live a life of such privilege carried a huge responsibility. A duty to look after those less fortunate than she was. Connie was taught that it was the duty of the wealthy to provide work and security for the working classes. This was a lesson that Connie learned well and put it into practices throughout her life. Although a Unionist and loyal to the British Crown all her life, Connie never ever harbored bigoted thoughts of any kind. When dealing with people no matter their creed, Connie always treated people as just that, people.

Book Description
The “fierce” and “remarkable” memoir from one of the nation’s most influential and celebrated civil rights attorneys—second cousin of former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice—is “a rallying cry for social justice” (More magazine). Connie Rice has taken on the bus system, the school system, the death penalty, gangs, and the LAPD—and won. Now, with an electrifying, inimitable voice, Rice illuminates the origins and inspiration for her life’s work in this “genuinely compelling” (Kirkus Reviews) account. Part memoir, part call to action, Power Concedes Nothing is passionate, provocative, and studded with dramatic stories of a life in the trenches of civil rights. Inspired by the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., Connie Rice has written a “remarkable” (Publishers Weekly) blueprint for a new generation of justice seekers.

Book Description
Connie Willis draws upon her understanding of the universalities of human nature to explore the ageless issues of evil, suffering, and the indomitable will of the human spirit. “A tour de force.”—The New York Times Book Review For Kivrin, preparing to travel back in time to study one of the deadliest eras in humanity’s history was as simple as receiving inoculations against the diseases of the fourteenth century and inventing an alibi for a woman traveling alone. For her instructors in the twenty-first century, it meant painstaking calculations and careful monitoring of the rendezvous location where Kivrin would be received. But a crisis strangely linking past and future strands Kivrin in a bygone age as her fellows try desperately to rescue her. In a time of superstition and fear, Kivrin—barely of age herself—finds she has become an unlikely angel of hope during one of history’s darkest hours.

Book Description
One of those rare, unforgettable novels that are as chilling as they are insightful, as thought-provoking as they are terrifying, award-winning author Connie Willis's Passage is an astonishing blend of relentless suspense and cutting-edge science unlike anything you've ever read before. It is the electrifying story of a psychologist who has devoted her life to tracking death. But when she volunteers for a research project that simulates the near-death experience, she will either solve life's greatest mystery -- or fall victim to its greatest terror. At Mercy General Hospital, Dr. Joanna Lander will soon be paged -- not to save a life, but to interview a patient just back from the dead. A psychologist specializing in near-death experiences, Joanna has spent two years recording the experiences of those who have been declared clinically dead and lived to tell about it. It's research on the fringes of ordinary science, but Joanna is about to get a boost from an unexpected quarter. A new doctor has arrived at Mercy General, one with the power to give Joanna the chance to get as close to death as anyone can. A brilliant young neurologist, Dr. Richard Wright has come up with a way to manufacture the near-death experience using a psychoactive drug. Dr. Wright is convinced that the NDE is a survival mechanism and that if only doctors understood how it worked, they could someday delay the dying process, or maybe even reverse it. He can use the expertise of a psychologist of Joanna Lander's standing to lend credibility to his study. But he soon needs Joanna for more than just her reputation. When his key volunteer suddenly drops out of the study, Joanna finds herself offering to become Richard's next subject. After all, who better than she, a trained psychologist, to document the experience? Her first NDE is as fascinating as she imagined it would be -- so astounding that she knows she must go back, if only to find out why this place is so hauntingly familiar. But each time Joanna goes under, her sense of dread begins to grow, because part of her already knows why the experience is so familiar, and why she has every reason to be afraid.... And just when you think you know where she is going, Willis throws in the biggest surprise of all -- a shattering scenario that will keep you feverishly reading until the final climactic page is turned.

Book Description
As a helping professional, I dedicate my life to helping children and their family, to the best of my ability, to have hope and a brighter future. During difficult times, therapy is not always the first choice and, in some cases, not easily accessible. There are several reasons people hesitate about therapy, such as the negative stigma of seeking help for mental health and mental illness, cost, lack of compatibility with therapist, location, insurance issues and now social distancing, during the Coronavirus Pandemic of 2020. Disclaimer: This illustration is strictly for support of others and not intended to take the place of a licensed therapist, providing therapy or counseling sessions. Seek medical attention from a helping professional, if at risk of harm to self and/ or others, by contacting 911 or going to your nearest emergency room. This interactive book was written with the aim of supporting those individuals who are supporting others. Its main focus is to help individuals, parents and helping professionals in need of help, with day-to-day struggles, their children, teenagers and others, coping with mental health issues and challenging behaviors. Additionally, during this time of Covid-19 Pandemic, this book offers support to those who are unable to go into an office, for face-to-face visits and those who are unfamiliar with working with said population. This interactive book is intended to help and support children, adolescents, teenagers and adults, who are going through difficulty manage their thoughts, behavior and emotions, while coping with life situations, mental health conditions and IDD. This book or any therapy services, cannot guarantee any specific results, outcomes or promises, but to facilitate you and/ or family member(s) to tap into their and your own power and strengths, to reach your goal(s). Everything you need is within you! This illustration demonstrates and describes some activities and exercises that can be used in the schools, home and communicating settings to begin the process of self-awareness, healing and moving forward. Therapy is about self-awareness and developing coping skills to navigate through life’s challenges. Being a helping professional, for thirty-five plus years, I realized I do not have the physical capacity to work endless hours, to help all of the children and families I would love to help, but by writing this book I can share some of the information and techniques I have used, acquired and learned, that have helped hundreds of children, families and adults, over the years. For me, this book is like my version of the story of “Saving the Starfish.” If I can help one, maybe I can make a difference in one person and even for the next generation. My version of the story is not helping people, one by one, but putting these skills into a written form, to share with all of those in need, simultaneous, maybe even around the world. This avenue seems much more effective and cost efficient. I hope this information has reached you. Remember, there is always hope! Note: in the book, functional coping skills will be underlined, to indirectly provide guidance and prompts to functional alternatives to manage challenging and difficulty situations/ behaviors. Be empowered to, mindfully, implement these healthy alternatives and coping skills in your daily living.
