Book Description
The journey of Shunboo was a young girl who grew up with her stepfather, mother, four sisters, and two brothers. For a short period, until she was removed from her home, she was a very mature girl for her age in physical development. Shunboo was a very pretty girl for her age, and also she was very mature in speech and conversation, which some would say she had a grown mouth, but it was not so. Shunboo understood right and wrong and had a lot of common sense. She would often cry because she felt set apart from others for some reason, such as her peers who were her age, and she could not explain that question. She also could not answer why she exemplified great mannerism, and she understood things very well that she saw more comprehensive than other children her age. She was a very clean girl as well as a caring young girl, who always wanted to help those who got to know her. Shunboo was a friend indeed. Shunboo was a friend and a protector of all. The love of this young girl was amazing. She was a thinker and would often lay always thinking for the better and the greater to come and how she could live in that place of freedom. Yes! This young girl would think of these things as a child. She would often dream that she would be on a pathway walking and the path would seem clear, but all of a sudden, she would fall into the uninvited dark hole while feeling the gravity and the force pulling with weaken defense. She was not able to help her body from being pulled into this hole, and all of a sudden, a powerful presence would come and catch her in the midst of falling.

Book Description
Reader, don’t waste your time with this book. You might as well stick this book back on the shelf. Or toss it under your bed. You don’t need to read it because nothing happens. Or, wait, is that something? It’s a trumpet without a trumpeter. And there’s a tiny car without a driver. And a baton without a twirler. Maybe if you keep turning the pages, you’ll find out who is missing these items. Maybe they are all together, about to do something surprising. Maybe something does happen after all — something amazing! Kids will be hooked as they embark on a quest to find this (seemingly) missing story!

If That Ever Happens to Me
Author: Lois Shepherd
Publisher: Univ of North Carolina Press
ISBN: 0807888648
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 237
Book Description
Every day, thousands of people quietly face decisions as agonizing as those made famous in the Terri Schiavo case. Throughout that controversy, all kinds of people--politicians, religious leaders, legal and medical experts--made emphatic statements about the facts and offered even more certain opinions about what should be done. To many, courts were either ordering Terri's death by starvation or vindicating her constitutional rights. Both sides called for simple answers. If That Ever Happens to Me details why these simple answers were not right for Terri Schiavo and why they are not right for end-of-life decisions today. Lois Shepherd looks behind labels like "starvation," "care," or "medical treatment" to consider what care and feeding really mean, when feeding tubes might be removed, and why disability groups, the faithful, and even the dying themselves often suggest end-of-life solutions that they might later regret. For example, Shepherd cautions against living wills as a pat answer. She provides evidence that demanding letter-perfect documents can actually weaken, rather than bolster, patient choice. The actions taken and decisions made during Terri Schiavo's final years will continue to have repercussions for thousands of others--those nearing death, their families, health-care professionals, attorneys, lawmakers, clergy, media, researchers, and ethicists. If That Ever Happens to Me is an excellent choice for anyone interested in end-of-life law, policy, and ethics--particularly readers seeking a deeper understanding of the issues raised by Terri Schiavo's case.

Raised by Animals
Author: Jennifer L. Verdolin
Publisher: The Experiment + ORM
ISBN: 1615193456
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 352
Book Description
When it comes to family matters, do humans know best? Leading animal behaviorist Dr. Jennifer Verdolin argues otherwise in this eye-opening book. Welcome to the wild world of raising a family in the animal kingdom . . . sometimes shocking, often ingenious! Every species can surprise us: Chimps have a knack for minimizing temper tantrums, and owl chicks have a remarkable gift for sharing. A prairie vole knows exactly when his stressed-out partner needs a massage. And anyone who considers reptiles “cold-blooded” should consider the caecilian, a snakelike animal from Kenya: After laying eggs, the mother grows a fatty layer of skin, which her babies eat after hatching (not one of the book’s many lessons from the wild to be tried at home!). Along the way Verdolin challenges our often counterproductive beliefs about what families ought to be like and how we should feel. By finding common ground with our furry, feathered, and even slimy cousins, we can gain new insight on what “natural” parenting really means—and perhaps do a better job of forgiving ourselves for those days when we’re “only human”!

The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Curriculum for the Twenty-first Century
Author: Catherine D. De Angelis
Publisher: JHU Press
ISBN: 9780801863509
Category : Curriculum planning
Languages : en
Pages : 272
Book Description
"Our basic philosophy of medical education must be directed not toward creating a neurosurgeon, a family practitioner, a cardiologist, or a general pediatrician but toward creating an undifferentiated 'stem cell' physician who is so well prepared that he or she is fully capable of taking any career path after medical school. Every indication is that our goal is being met. The new curriculum is preparing students for the demands and responsibilities of a new era of medicine, science, and medical arts." -- from the Foreword, by Michael M. E. Johns, M.D. The curriculum taught in many U.S. medical schools today has been altered little since 1910. Now, spurred in part by the recent sweeping changes in health care delivery, medical schools are re-evaluating their curricula. The goal is to develop a program of medical education that not only reflects the latest scientific advances but also prepares physicians in the fields and specialties society now needs. This book provides an extensive description of the process and outcome of developing a completely new curriculum at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. The book is organized around the subjects and courses taught: basic sciences, physician and society, medical informatics, and clinical medicine. Chapters also consider evaluation and reform of the curriculum. The contributors, Johns Hopkins faculty members who participated in developing the components of the curriculum, discuss differences between the old and new courses and programs, reasons for the changes, and the process used to plan and implement them. Throughout, the material is presented in a way that permits easy generalization and adaptation to other medical schools. Contributors: Catherine D. De Angelis, M.D. Diane M. Becker, Sc.D. Gert H. Brieger, M.D., Ph.D. Leon Gordis, M.D. H. Franklin Herlong, M.D. K. Joseph Hurt Michael M. E. Johns, M.D. Langford Kidd, M.D., F.R.C.P. Michael J. Klag, M.D. Harold P. Book Description
This timely book explores the wisdom of the Gnostic Jesus, who challenges our preconceptions about the world and ourselves.
