Studies of children who read during the summer months discovered a much greater intellectual progress in vocabulary, spelling and math than that of a child not reading during summer break. Reading is a strong tool for developing comprehension skills and basic knowledge of the world. Cchildren who read during the summer vacation stay ahead of their classmates during the school year. Summer reading is most important for maintaining a child's current grade level abilities and for developing skills above the current grade level. Encouraging our children to read is critical to keeping them on track with their peers and retain knowledge over the summer break. If you are unsure of what your children should be reading, there are a multitude of reading lists available at school, libraries, and online.
