This report results from a contract tasking Research Institute for Laser Physics as follows: The contractor will investigate experimental and theoretical studies of the factors limiting the diffraction efficiency of spatial light modulators with nematic liquid crystals that are used for correcting wavefront distortions; fabr and test two spatial light modulators with segnetoelectric smectic liquid crystals; perform experimental and theoretical studies of the factors limiting the diffraction efficiency of spatial light modulators with smectic liquid crystals that are used for correcting wavefront distortions.
