Book Description
The first of John Master's evocative memoirs about life in the Gurkhas in India on the cusp of WWII John Masters was a soldier before he became a bestselling novelist. He went to Sandhurst in 1933 at the age of eighteen and was commissioned into the 4th Gurkha Rifles in time to take part in some of the last campaigns on the turbulent north-west frontier of India. John Masters joined a Gurhka regiment on receiving his commission, and his depiction of garrison life and campaigning on the North-West Frontier has never been surpassed. BUGLES AND A TIGER is a matchless evocation of the British Army in India on the eve of the Second World War. Still very much the army depicted by Kipling, it stands on the threshold of a war that will transform the world. This book is the first of three volumes of autobiography that touched a chord in the post-war world.

Book Description
The Young Buglers, A Tale of the Peninsular War is a book by British author G.A. Henty. It was published by Blackie and Son Ltd, London. It tells of the Peninsula War through the eyes of two orphaned brothers, Tom and Peter Scudamore. George Alfred Henty was a prolific English novelist and a special correspondent. He is best known for his historical adventure stories that were popular in the late 19th century. His works include The Dragon & The Raven (1886), For The Temple (1888), Under Drake's Flag (1883) and In Freedom's Cause (1885). His children's novels typically revolved around a boy or young man living in troubled times. These ranged from the Punic War to more recent conflicts such as the Napoleonic Wars or the American Civil War. Henty's heroes - which occasionally included young ladies - are uniformly intelligent, courageous, honest and resourceful with plenty of 'pluck' yet are also modest. These virtues have made Henty's novels popular today among many Christians and homeschoolers.

Book Description
This highly readable illustrated biography on the Percy Tenantry Volunteers has been written with exclusive access to the current Duke of Northumberland's treasure trove of archive records. This book is for anyone interested in military history, especially Revolutionary and the Napoleonic war period, and for those looking at the local history of Northumberland, and especially Alnwick Castle. The history of Britain's conflict with France between 1793 and 1815 is well documented. Nevertheless, one aspect that has scant coverage, is that of the role of Volunteers. In 1798, afraid of impending invasion by France's all-conquering armies the British desperately needed to defend their shores. To The Call of Bugles reveals, for the first time, how among those who stood forward in Home Guard style military bodies, there was no finer example than that of the valiant Percy Tenantry Volunteers, created by the 2nd Duke of Northumberland, General Hugh Percy. This amateur body of men, 1,500 strong, consisting of cavalry, artillery and riflemen, was put together, trained, armed, dressed and operated by General Hugh Percy. This book provides stories from the original volunteers, an in-depth understanding of how such a corps was organised and reveals how they were fashioned into an elite and innovative fighting force.

Book Description
There is hardly a person alive today that has not heard of the battle of the Alamo and its famous defenders. Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, and William Travis, have all been glorified in book and film. The fourteen-day battle is known throughout the world and is often highlighted to show to what degree men are willing to sacrifice for what they believe in. But, why and how did this final incomprehensible calamity come about? How accurate are these versions that we have been told? Not till recently have other controversial accounts surfaced. Accounts in the form of affidavits, claims, letters, and diaries of Tejanos living in San Antonio de Bexar at the time, including Mexican Army participants, who were eyewitnesses to the event that unfolded in 1836. This new information details some very different and surprising events. Many feel that there were other underling circumstances and certain theories even point to possible conspiracies. I have used a fictitious family and known historical events to give the side of the people living in Bexar at the time and how events unfolded on a day by day basis in this Mexican town we all know as San Antonio. I try and detail what took place behind the scenes. Although this book is fictional it’s based on true events. The main character , a 12-year-old boy named Temo. Although fictional, could have very well been have lived in Bexar during this time, but by a different name, who knows.
