Book Description
Scholarship on Fire: A History of the "Chair of Fire" and Southern Baptist Evangelism in Theological Education takes a step back into early-twentieth-century Texas Baptist history and observes the unveiling of the crown jewel of the Southern Baptist Convention, the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and the events that led the forward-thinking architect of theological education, Benajah Harvey (B. H.) Carroll, to the creation of the world's first endowed chair of evangelism and professorship of evangelism at his newly formed Texas seminary. This book carries the reader through a 112-year history of an academic chair and professorship that both educated men and women in the art of personal and mass evangelism and provided the necessary evangelistic spirit to forge the fervent pioneering, soul-winning denominational spirit that has thrust Southern Baptists to the forefront of evangelistic advancement since their inception in 1845. Studying the auspicious beginnings of evangelism taught in theological education will delve into the lives of the men who have taught Christians to reach their neighbors for Christ Jesus. The "Chair of Fire" has impacted all seminaries and Christian schools around the world because of the inclusion of evangelism in theological education.

Book Description
The publication of Scholars of Tort Law marks the beginning of a long overdue rebalancing of private law scholarship. Instead of concentrating on judicial decisions and academic commentary only for what that commentary says about judicial decisions, the book explores the contributions of scholars of tort law in their own right. The work of a selection of leading scholars of tort law from across the common law world, ranging from Thomas Cooley (1824–1898) to Patrick Atiyah (1931–2018), is addressed by eminent current scholars in the field. The focus of the contributions is on the nature of the work produced by each of the scholars in question, important influences on their work, and the influence which that work in turn had on thinking about tort law. The process of subjecting tort law scholarship to sustained analysis provides new insights into the intellectual development of tort law and reveals the important role played by scholars in that development. By focusing on the work of influential tort scholars, the book serves to emphasise the importance of legal scholarship to the development of the common law more generally.

Book Description
Professor Cheffins' lecture offers a path-breaking examination of potential trajectories for legal scholarship. Considerable attention is devoted to academic writing on law, but little has been said about the process by which the relevant literature evolves. This lecture focuses directly on the evolution of legal scholarship. It identifies five potential trajectories, revolving around concepts such as 'progress', 'paradigms', the marketplace for ideas, intellectual cycles, and fads and fashions. Professor Cheffins offers a summary of each trajectory and then tests the propositions he has advanced by means of a case study dealing with corporate law. He argues that scholarly trends in law develop in a manner that is at least partially consistent with each of the trajectories he identifies, but acknowledges that none captures fully the dynamics at work.

Book Description
One of the most influential leaders in the civil rights movement, Robert Parris Moses was essential in making Mississippi a central battleground state in the fight for voting rights. As a leader of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), Moses presented himself as a mere facilitator of grassroots activism rather than a charismatic figure like Martin Luther King Jr. His self-effacing demeanor and his success, especially in steering the events that led to the volatile 1964 Freedom Summer and the formation of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, paradoxically gave him a reputation of nearly heroic proportions. Examining the dilemmas of a leader who worked to cultivate local leadership, historian Laura Visser-Maessen explores the intellectual underpinnings of Moses's strategy, its achievements, and its struggles. This new biography recasts Moses as an effective, hands-on organizer, safeguarding his ideals while leading from behind the scenes. By returning Moses to his rightful place among the foremost leaders of the movement, Visser-Maessen testifies to Moses's revolutionary approach to grassroots leadership and the power of the individual in generating social change.
