Fanning, of Philadelphia, in a spectacular address, flayed the Anti-Saloon League, declaring that its political work is amateurish and childish, will never accomplish anything, and that the organization-a a blight on modern civilization. These two unexpected declarations took the wind out of the sails of the convention, and the ranks of the party were demoralized. Desperate n has seized the temperance element of Indianapolis and Attorney-General Bingham has been prevailed upon to make one final and determined effort, which has as its purpose the closing of many, if not all, the saloons, not only in that city, but throughout the State. To this end he has filed suits against the brewing companies, charging them with operating hundreds of saloons in defiance of law. He asks for the appointment of receivers for all the defendants. The brewers will make a fiht, and briefs have been filed attacking the right of the State to take such action. The Ohio Wine and Spirits Association has prepared for an active campaign of education, to be conducted through the medium of a department of publicity, the organization of which is now being perfected by a committee representing the official family of the organization. This bureau will be in charge of an experienced newspaper man. The association will be given valuable assistance in this work by the Personal Liberty League, which has estalvlished headquarters in the First National Bank, and is now carrying on an active campaign. The Rose County Local Option Law becomes effective on September 1st, and immediately after that date a number of counties will hold special...
