Book Description
A dynamic and far-reaching dialogue with one of Europe’s most influential contemporary artists about his vision of unifying art and everyday life. In 2013, at the age of eighty, Michelangelo Pistoletto was the subject of a six-month exhibition at the Louvre in Paris. Here, in an insightful, passionate, and humorous dialogue with his interviewer, Alain Elkann, he reflects on his legacy. Illustrated with more than two hundred photographs of his life and work, The Voice of Pistoletto demystifies the story of the growth of an artist, candidly discussing his inspirations; his relationships with gallerists, critics, and curators of great renown; and the comparisons and critiques of his fellow contemporary masters, from Magritte to Picasso, Koons to Cattelan, Giacometti to Bacon. The result is a conversational collage that illuminates Pistoletto’s own creative life and gives readers a privileged view of the history of contemporary art in general.

Book Description
In our accelerated era of "faster," "better," "farther," "higher," this comprehensive catalogue of the media art of the world-renowned Goetz Collection in Munich offers not only a survey of much of the most important film and video work to have been made over the last 15 years, but also a vision of how our habit of seeing and experiencing the world--in perpetual fast forward mode--has come out of our own cultural acceleration. The works brought together in this 532-page volume are at once an expression of and a reaction to the hyper-speed of our times. They span from the slow-motion images in David Claerbout's still life-like landscape portrait, Ruurlo, Bocurloscheweg 1910, to the rhythmic-dynamic disco tempo of Wolfgang Tillmans's Lights (Body). This superb collection includes videos, video installations and films by Matthew Barney, Olaf Breuning, Tracey Emin, Fischli & Weiss, Rodney Graham, Mona Hatoum, Pierre Huyghe, Isaac Julien, Mike Kelley, Sharon Lockhart, Sarah Morris, Raymond Pettibon, Pipilotti Rist, Anri Sala, Ann-Sofi Sidén, Diana Thater and others.

Book Description
For decades, contemporary artworks with reflective properties have stimulated public forms of spectatorship. According to Cristina Albu, these artworks, which can include elements such as mirrors, live video feedback, or sensors, draw attention to affective interdependence and mechanisms of social control. In Mirror Affect, Albu provides a historical account of mirroring processes in contemporary art and offers insight into the phenomenological and sociopolitical concerns that have inspired artists to stage processes of affective, perceptual, and behavioral mirroring between art viewers. Beginning with the 1960s, Albu charts the rise of interpersonal modes of art spectatorship. She reveals contemporary artists’ strategic use of reflective and responsive interfaces to instill doubt in visual representation and appeal to active scrutiny of the changing social dynamics. She suggests that the mirroring processes envisioned by contemporary artists such as Joan Jonas, Dan Graham, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Olafur Eliasson, and Rafael Lozano-Hemmer trigger visual disjunctions to upset narcissistic inclinations. They invite viewers to see themselves in relation to others and to ponder their role within complex social systems. From sculpture and performance to art and technology projects, video art, and installation art, Mirror Affect analyzes forms of interpersonal spectatorship, revising and expanding current historiographies of participatory art.
