Performance-focused Smile Sheets
Author: Will Thalheimer
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781941577004
Category : Employees
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
This book, "Performance-Focused Smile Sheets," completely reimagines the smile sheet as an essential tool to drive performance improvement. Traditional smile sheets (i.e., learner response forms, student reaction forms) don't work! Decades of practice shows them to have negligible benefits. Scientific studies prove that traditional smile sheets are not correlated with learning results! Yet still we rely on smile sheets to make critical decisions about our learning interventions. In this book, Dr. Will Thalheimer carefully builds the case for a new methodology in smile-sheet design. Based on the learning research, "Performance-Focused Smile Sheets" shows how to write better questions, more focused on performance. The book also shows how to deploy smile sheets to our learners to get valid feedback--feedback that can be used to help us as trainers, instructional designers, teachers, professors, eLearning developers, and chief learning officers build virtuous cycles of continuous improvement.

The Value of Herman Melville
Author: Geoffrey Sanborn
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1108644228
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 173
Book Description
In The Value of Herman Melville, Geoffrey Sanborn presents Melville to us neither as a somber purveyor of dark truths nor as an ironist who has outthought us in advance but as a quasi-maternal provider, a writer who wants more than anything else to supply us with the means of enriching our experiences. In twelve brief chapters, Sanborn examines the distinctive qualities of Melville's style - its dynamism, its improvisatoriness, its intimacy with remembered or imagined events - and shows how those qualities, once they have become a part of our equipment for living, enable us to sink deeper roots into the world. Ranging across his career, but focusing in particular on Moby-Dick, 'Bartleby, the Scrivener', 'Benito Cereno', and Billy Budd, Sanborn shows us a Melville who is animating rather than overawing, who encourages us to bring more of ourselves to the present and to care more about the life that we share with others.

Love and Faith and Beauty
Author: Margaret Talley
Publisher: AuthorHouse
ISBN: 1481747444
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 106
Book Description
I began writing poetry in the early eighties. The Lord inspired the majority of my poetry. I would be awakened around one a.m. with a poem in my heart and mind. I could not go back to sleep until I wrote it down. I keep and paper and pen close by . Sometimes I write on scrap paper on table napkins. Whatever is available whenthe poem comes to me. I began to feel I should publish my poetry as it began to come in the darkest hours of my life. I was having financial problems. My father had passed on leaving me to care for my sister who was disabled for life and I became disabled to work. Then went five years without an income. It was hard. Then on my fifty-nineth birthday I had surgery for breast cancer. During the time i was taking chemo, my sister passed this life. I have had cancer twice since; but the Lord whom I serve and write about has brought me through. I never thought once about turning away from Him and I grew stronger in my faith. I always claim the Scripture I can do all tings through Christ who strengthen me. I pray those who read my poetry will be blessed and encouraged.
