Book Description
This novel is set in the near future, where human genome editing has become routine. First adopted to fight a lethal virus, it is now widely used to prevent diseases and favor other traits. Ben, Eiko, Celia, Raphael and Leo have just had their coming-of-age genome reading and are struggling with this new information for each their own reasons. Soon, they are cast into the middle of a crisis that threatens the future of their society and pits it against a parallel, but strictly separated, society where genome manipulation is forbidden on religious grounds. The book includes an essay on the potential of human genome engineering and related genome-based choices.

Book Description
Carolina Maria de Jesus' book, Quarto de Despejo (The Trash Room), depicted the harsh life of the slums, but it also spoke of the author's pride in her blackness, her high moral standards, and her patriotism. More than a million copies of her diary are believed to have been sold worldwide. Yet many Brazilians refused to believe that someone like de Jesus could have written such a diary, with its complicated words (some of them misused) and often lyrical phrasing as she discussed world events. Doubters prefer to believe the book was either written by Audáulio Dantas, the enterprising newspaper reporter who discovered her, or that Dantas rewrote it so substantially that her book is a fraud. With the cooperation of de Jesus' daughter, recent research shows that although Dantas deleted considerable portions of the diary (as well as a second one), every word was de Jesus'. But Dantas did "create" a different Carolina from the woman who coped with her harsh life by putting things down on paper. This book sets the record straight by providing detailed translations of de Jesus' unedited diaries and explains why Brazilian elites were motivated to obscure her true personality and present her as something she was not. It is not only about the writer but about Brazil as recorded by her sarcastic pen. The diary entries in this book span from 1958 to 1966, five years beyond text previously known to exist. They show de Jesus as she was, preserving her Joycean stream-of-consciousness language and her pithy characterizations.

An addictive story respects no one. The legendary DB Cooper long miffed experts, authorities, amateur sleuths and pretty much everyone else. "Coopermania" has fuelled heated debates, bizarre speculation, chronic obsession and a multicultural phenomenon that spans more than a generation.Without the unlikely witness of a child, the FBI would never have found "Dan Cooper," the man who paid twenty dollars on Thanksgiving Eve, 1971 to seal his notorious place in history. A troubled but ordinary man did an extraordinary feat that night, and for forty years the world wondered what was his fate. Movies were made, songs were composed and sung, poetry penned and recited, parties were thrown followed by nursed hangovers in honor of DB Cooper. Sometimes called a "Robin Hood" who "stuck it to the man" he was celebrated, cursed, emulated, and esteemed while often presumed dead. But who was he really? Where did he come from? Where did he go? Most importantly, how was the case finally solved?"DB's Niece" is Marla Cooper's first hand account of her remarkable journey through personal challenges and opposing obstacles. This is a story of hope and redemption, divine intervention, uncanny coincidences, and great inspiration marked by certain destiny.

Book Description
The Anarchist Cookbook will shock, it will disturb, it will provoke. It places in historical perspective an era when "Turn on, Burn down, Blow up" are revolutionary slogans of the day. Says the author" "This book... is not written for the members of fringe political groups, such as the Weatherman, or The Minutemen. Those radical groups don't need this book. They already know everything that's in here. If the real people of America, the silent majority, are going to survive, they must educate themselves. That is the purpose of this book." In what the author considers a survival guide, there is explicit information on the uses and effects of drugs, ranging from pot to heroin to peanuts. There i detailed advice concerning electronics, sabotage, and surveillance, with data on everything from bugs to scramblers. There is a comprehensive chapter on natural, non-lethal, and lethal weapons, running the gamut from cattle prods to sub-machine guns to bows and arrows.
