Rev. James Alexander and Mary Maxwell were married in Scotland. They had nine children, 1646-1665. The family immigrated to America and settled in North Carolina. Their great grandson, Ezekiel Alexander (b. 1754), a Revolutionary War soldier, married Jemima Esther McCoy in 1772/3. They had eight children, 1774-1789. The family migrated to Tennessee, ca. 1799. Their grandson, Benjamin C. Alexander (1848-1909), married Nancy Elizabeth Davenport (1857- 1949) in 1872. They had ten children, 1873-1897, all born in Cannon County, Tennessee. Descendants listed lived in Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky, and elsewhere.
