Out of Ashes
Author: Sierra Howard Wyness Robinson Nelson
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Fire extinction
Languages : en
Pages : 88
Book Description
This paper examines the historic influence of technology on firefighting and on fire management policy in the Intermountain West. It does so by exploring three themes: convergence, fire suppression assistance, and information. Also examined is how technology played a role in the 10 AM policy and the unintended consequences of that policy. The time period covers historic fires, such as the Idaho Fires of 1910, Montana's Mann Gulch Fire of 1949, and other historically important burns up until the 1970s. Three major research methods were used: quantitative analysis of fire data, reviews of the historiography of fire history in the United States, and data collected from archives, periodicals, personal interviews, and published reports. While technology can be a great tool in firefighting and fire management, it may have unintended consequences that can be devastating to forest health and human life.
