Book Description
The study investigates the impacts on the Texas rice industry of the shift from stable economic conditions and a government policy of supply control in the 1960's to the more variable economic conditions and a market-oriented farm policy of the 1970'. Markets were found to adjust quicker to changes in information under the market-oriented policies of the 1970's. The increase in risk due to increased price variability significantly increases marketing margins. The shift to the conditions of the 1970' decreases a Texas rice producer's chance of survival.
