Book Description
As new faculty members in the Section of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University, we began collaborating on research into assessment and treatment of sexual problems in the fall of 1975. Although each of us arrived with clinical and research in terests in the broad field of sexual problems, the idea for this book grew out of our early discussions and a consensus on the future direction of research. We noted that there had been an extremely rapid increase in knowledge of human sexual behavior as well as sexual disorders and their treatment over the last few decades. It has also become increasingly apparent that sexual problems, broadly conceived, comprise a sizable fraction of the problems for which people seek treatment, and that, although the treatment of sexual problems was achieving some success, treatment was for the most part slow, costly, and without any guarantee of successful outcome. Furthermore, there were many people with sexual prob lems for whom treatment was not available. With these ideas in mind, it seemed timely for investigators in the field of human sex uality and its disorders to turn their attention to the problem of prevention. Organizing a symposium on the topic enabled us to invite leading investigators in the study of sexual behavior to address this area. The chapters in this volume are an outgrowth and refinement of the formal papers delivered at the symposium, which was held in the spring of 1976.

Book Description
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Sexual Dysfunction provides clinicians and graduate students with a comprehensive biopsychosocial model of useful, practical, empirically-based strategies and techniques to address common sexual dysfunctions. It is the most comprehensive volume describing the couple cognitive-behavioral approach to assessment, treatment, and relapse prevention of sexual dysfunction. The focus is on sexual desire and satisfaction with an emphasis on the Good Enough Sex (GES) model of sharing sexual pleasure rather than an individual perfect intercourse performance test. Book Description
Doesn't everyone you know think about, talk about, and worry about sexuality? Sexuality is taught about in classrooms, whispered about in school hallways, worried about on the nightly news, and made scandalous on talk shows and late-night television. People express their sexuality in many ways, and we receive many, often conflicting, messages about what are appropriate and inappropriate expressions of sexuality. As you grow and learn about your own and other people's sexualities, many things can be exciting, confusing, and even frightening. It can be disturbing to have sexual fantasies and urges and not know the boundary between so-called normal thoughts and behaviors and those that might be considered disordered. Prior to 1960, sexually deviant behaviors were poorly understood and were considered to be failures in morality or a result of poor upbringing. People suffering from these conditions were often treated with electro-shock, talk therapy, jail sentences, and confinement in mental institutions, all of which had little positive effect on the patients. Today, with advances in treatments like drug therapy, there is new hope for those who have spent so long suffering in silence and shame. Sexual Disorders defines different sexual disorders, explains the criteria that put them over the boundary line into the realm of psychiatric illness, and examines methods of treatment available to help individuals with these illnesses. In this book's pages, you will learn about treatments used throughout history, the newest drug therapy available, and alternative approaches for managing these disorders.

Book Description
This book provides a comprehensive, state-of-the art review of the intersection of male and female reproductive and sexual health. The text comprehensively discusses the evaluation and management of physical, genetic, and psychological causes of male and female sexual dysfunction. Discussion of treatment focuses on current medical and surgical psychosexual therapies in both the male and female. The book highlights erectile, ejaculatory, and orgasmic disorders in the male; desire, arousal and orgasmic disorders in the female; and an integrated approach to the couple. Lifestyle modifications through diet and exercise and optimization of anthropomorphic characteristics are also discussed, including a holistic approach to these disorders that goes beyond a focus on the genital system alone. Sexual Dysfunction in Men and Women: An Interdisciplinary Approach serves as a resource for physicians and researchers interested in sexual medicine seeking a comprehensive overview of the practice and novel research in the field.

Book Description
Both research and consultations over the last decades have identified sexuality-related communication as an issue that requires urgent attention. While clients would like their health-care providers to discuss sexual health concerns, health workers lack the necessary training and knowledge to feel comfortable addressing such issues. This guideline provides health policy-makers and decision-makers in health professional training institutions with advice on the rationale for health-care providers' use of counselling skills to address sexual health concerns in a primary health care setting.

Book Description
This book discusses all aspects of sexuality in women and in particular explores sexual function and dysfunction in a variety of settings, including the different stages of life and a wide range of major diseases and local conditions. The aim is to refocus attention on the needs and sexual realities of women, providing a fresh point of view that will assist gynecologists, sexual medicine physicians, and urologists in delivery of high-quality care and help women themselves to understand and address sexual problems relating to desire, arousal, orgasm, and sexual pain. Psychological aspects of female sexuality and the impacts of the aging process, pregnancy, and childbirth are carefully examined. Extensive consideration is then given to the effects on sexual function of such conditions as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, neurological disease, endometriosis, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, reproductive disorders, sexual abuse, and drug abuse. Issues of sexual identity and female dysmorphophobias are also considered. The authors are all experts in the field and have a deep understanding of the complexities of female sexuality.
