Book Description
Dysmicoccus brevipes (Ckll.) is the predominant pineapple mealybug in South Africa, although Pseudococcus longispinus also occurs. For the purposes of this article only the former species will be considered. The pineapple mealybug is indigenous to Central and South America and is a pest of pineapples in most countries where the crop is grown. Mealybugs are found in all pineapple-growing areas in South Africa, but they are more of a problem in some areas, notably Zululand, than in others. Besides pineapples, other host plants include banana, sisal and several grass species, of which Panicum barbinode and Tricholaena rosea are rthemost important.

Distribution, Transmission, and Interactions of Pineapple Mealybug Wilt Associated Viruses in Hawaiʻi
Author: Cristita Verna Q. Subere

Languages : en
Pages : 402
Book Description
Specific detection and absolute quantitation of PMWaV-2 in pineapple plant tissues using quantitative RT-PCR (TagManRTM) assays were achieved. Optimized primers and probe designs based on the PMWaV-2 CP sequence of the virus were efficient in the amplification and quantification of PMWa-2 infected plants. PMWaV-2 levels in pineapple varied depending on plant tissues sampled, presence or absence of MWP symptoms and mealybug feeding.
