Book Description
Grounds Of Natural Philosophy: Divided Into Thirteen Parts With An Appendix Containing Five Parts The Second Edition, Much Altered From The First, Which Went Under The Name Of Philosophical And Physical Opinions This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

Book Description
Philip Astley first pegged out his circular 'ride' on the banks of the Thames in 1768 and so laid down the foundations of the modern circus. Performing feats of trick riding with his wife Patty Jones, little did he realise that before long women would become a dominant force in the circus. Sawdust Sisterhood explores how the circus empowered women and gave them the opportunity to compete and succeed as performers in their own right in an otherwise masculine world. Drawing upon historical news reports and contemporary interviews, the book explores the lives of female circus performers and focuses upon several of the more well-known artistes from across two centuries of circus, including; Madame Saqui, the renowned French wire-walker of the early nineteenth century; Nellie Chapman, the Victorian 'Lion Queen' of Wombwells's Menagerie and Circus; and Katie Brumbach, otherwise known as Sandwina, perhaps the most famous Strongwoman of the twentieth century. Sawdust Sisterhood acknowledges the role of the female circus performer across the centuries.

Book Description
"Why should we trouble with philosophy at all? What good will it do to us?" These are some of the questions that author Frederic Harrison posed in his lengthy introductory statement, which could very well be considered the first of 23 essays compiled in The Philosophy of Common Sense, which is his published attempt to answer those questions. Released in 1907, this volume is said to be the second of a series of studies collected by Harrison and is designed to summarize the "philosophical grounds" on which his previous work was based. It aims to present the main points of various philosophical arguments without the verbose descriptions that usually accompany them. This edition also includes some autobiographical elements that reveal how the author came up with his conclusions on various philosophical standpoints, in order to illustrate that "philosophy, like Religion, is much more simple, more practical, closer to a strenuous life on earth, than philosophers are thought to admit." A Positivist and a disciple of Comtean thought, Mr. Harrison uses Comte's standpoint in analyzing and criticizing various philosophies. You will also notice his penchant for referring to religion, as well as his efforts to arrive at the truth in the arguments presented in his essays. Those who have a yen for nineteenth century philosophy, as well as history, will find this book a compelling read and reference. Book Description
Excerpt from First Principles of Natural Philosophy The growth of physical science has rendered it more and more certain that phenomena of all kinds and in all places are due to the qualities and activities of the ultimate atoms of matter. Astronomy, Geology, Chemistry, and Physiology are each easily reducible to the same factors, and hence these sciences may properly be classed as departments of physical science. The name Physics has heretofore been held to apply to phenomena which could not properly be included in the above sciences. For that reason, and to emphasize the relationship of these to fundamental physical principles, the name Natural Philosophy has been adopted for this book, restoring an old term to its proper place, and giving it its proper meaning. The effort has been made to direct the attention of the student from the physics of mechanism to the physics of molecules, and help him to carry the mechanical conceptions gained by the study of visible bodies to their ultimate particles.
