Book Description
Excerpt from The Origin of the Bengali Script This essay on the origin of the Bengali Script was originally written by me in my mother tongue at the suggestion of the late charya Ramendra Sundara Trivedl, Principal of the Ripon College, who to my great regret has not lived to see its publication. Principal Trivedi intended to publish this essay in the Journal of the Bangiya Sahitya Parisad, of which learned Society he was the Secretary and one of the founders. At the suggestion of the Hon'ble Justice Sir sutosa Mukhopadhyaya, Sarasvati, Sastra-Vachaspati, it was translated into English and submitted with Principal Trivedi's consent for the University of Calcutta Jubilee Research Prize which was awarded to me in 1913. The publication of this work was undertaken by the University of Calcutta at the direction of the Hon'ble Justice Sir sutosa Mukhopadhyaya, Sarasvat, astra-Vachaspati, Kt., C.S.I., M.A., D.L., Ph.D., D.Sc., etc., then Vice-Chancellor of the University. I am indebted to my teacher the venerable Pandit Mah mahopadhyaya Hara Prasada Sastri, M.A., C.I.E., formerly Principal of the Government Sanskrit College, Calcutta, and now President of the Asiatic Society of Bengal, and Dr. D. B. Spooner, B.A., Ph.D., F.A.S.B., formerly Superintendent, Archaeological Survey, Eastern Circle, and now Officiating Director General of Archaeology in India, for many corrections and valuable suggestions. Book Description
Excerpt from The History of the Bengali Language It is very difficult to meet Sir George Grierson, for he has not chosen to cite authorities, nor has he adduced reasons in support of his propositions beyond what he has added at the end of his paper by way of his own signature. Where he has adduced reasons, he has rather stated new proposi tions in the name of reasons which stand equally in need of support. AS to the original cradle-land of the pre historic Aryans, nothing has yet been settled; and the Oldest record of the Aryans, the Vedas, being far from replete with evidence as to their original home and migra tory movements, the question relating to the appearance of Aryans in India is still a matter for careful inquiry and research. However, we do not hold Grierson responsible for the unscientific theory about the origin of the Aryans. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
