Book Description
The Napkin Manuscripts is a collection of twenty-two engaging prose pieces written over the past several decades by Michael McFee – poet, essayist, editor, and teacher. Taken together, they constitute a wide-ranging exploration of what working writers do, how they do it, and what it means. The book is divided into four parts: Section one is composed of personal essays, and is rooted in the landscape and culture of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, where the author grew up and where he often returns for inspiration. Section two gathers essays about the literary life and writing, among them pieces on editing, on teaching, on memorizing poetry, on rejection slips, on typewriters, and on becoming and being a writer. Section three collects seven essays about individual Appalachian writers, among them Fred Chappell, Kathryn Stripling Byer, and Robert Morgan. Section four consists of a public interview conducted at the Michael McFee Literary Festival at Emory & Henry College a few years ago, and recapitulates many of the book’s topics in lively conversational form. The Napkin Manuscripts will appeal to anyone with a connection to Appalachia and the South; to readers interested in contemporary poetry and literature; and to teachers, writers, and students of poetry, essays, and creative non-fiction.

Book Description
The acclaimed bestseller about visual problem solving-now bigger and better "There is no more powerful way to prove that we know something well than to draw a simple picture of it. And there is no more powerful way to see hidden solutions than to pick up a pen and draw out the pieces of our problem." So writes Dan Roam in The Back of the Napkin, the international bestseller that proves that a simple drawing on a humble napkin can be more powerful than the slickest PowerPoint presentation. Drawing on twenty years of experience and the latest discoveries in vision science, Roam teaches readers how to clarify any problem or sell any idea using a simple set of tools. He reveals that everyone is born with a talent for visual thinking, even those who swear they can't draw. And he shows how thinking with pictures can help you discover and develop new ideas, solve problems in unexpected ways, and dramatically improve your ability to share your insights. Take Herb Kelleher and Rollin King, who figured out how to beat the traditional hub-and-spoke airlines with a bar napkin and a pen. Three dots to represent Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. Three arrows to show direct flights. Problem solved, and the picture made it easy to sell Southwest Airlines to investors and customers. Now with more color, bigger pictures, and additional content, this new edition does an even better job of helping you literally see the world in a new way. Join the teachers, project managers, doctors, engineers, assembly-line workers, pilots, football coaches, marine drill instructors, financial analysts, students, parents, and lawyers who have discovered the power of solving problems with pictures.

Book Description
Spiritual discovery, Mary Magdalene, and the Holy Grail—this is the O Manuscript trilogy, collected in one volume. International Bestseller: This story of a modern-day mystic’s spiritual apprenticeship in Cathar country of southern France reads like a real-life Gnostic thriller. In the opening scene of The O Manuscript, Lars Muhl is an aging, washed-up rock star who has been lying in bed for three years. Abandoned by doctors and living alone on an island, a friend gives Muhl the phone number of a “seer” in Andalusia. After a single phone call, Muhl is back on his feet and a three-year apprenticeship to the Seer ensues—an adventure that is part history lesson, part Jedi-style initiation. During their time together, the Seer challenges Muhl to abandon his old life, testing both his physical and emotional endurance, so that he may leave the burdens of his past behind. He also initiates Muhl to the mysteries of the Montségur and the Cathars—the medieval religious sect once persecuted by the Roman Catholic Church—in southern France. After years of searching for Montségur’s secret cave, Muhl finds himself in possession of the secret history of Mariam Magdalene, Yeshua, and the Holy Grail. The O Manuscript is not just another book about positive thinking. Throughout his initiation, Muhl was forced to confront his dark side, the shadows that kept him from true health and wellness. “This is my journey,” says Muhl. “Every word of it is true and really happened to me, but it is also meant to be a kind of allegory. The lessons I learned are universal.” Part memoir, part novel, and part spiritual treatise, The O Manuscript will forever change the way you think about life.

Book Description
A manuscript is found in a box on a beach. The manuscript contains what appears to be a first-hand account of an event that took place in Cannes on the French Riviera in September 2003. Written by a young man called Smith who is tormented by the unresolved murder of his father in Cannes three years earlier, and the subsequent death of his mother; the manuscript takes us on a week long journey in pursuit of a man who appears as an evil omen in Smith's recurring nightmares. In the uber-chic side street neon bars and clubs of Cannes, Smith forms a bond with the sassy and beguiling Clara, but their new found love for each other and dreams of the future are shattered by one decision, one mistake. The Smith Manuscript is a comical yet ultimately bleak and uncompromising lesson in the cold metallic reality of life and living - and of death and dying.

Book Description
An American businessman suddenly finds himself asked to recover a family legacy lost during WWII, a legacy dating back centuries. A decision to honor the request means jeopardizing his career by flying off to England on a quest with seemingly small chance for success. His quest becomes filled with a sense of a family heritage needing to be recovered but with a growing concern for the people who took it and risks in trying to reacquire it. In following what little clues he has, he finds himself somehow coerced into hiring a young woman whose commitment to him creates a growing affection he tries to discount being her employer and reality of them living an ocean apart. A book of intrigue bound with historical roots dating well back in history but playing out in the twentieth century with a romance of surprising elements. In all, a great read at night or on the beach for its surprising plot and characters.
