It is of value in all catarrhs of the respira tory organs. As a hepatic and stomachic stimulant sanguinarine has considerable value. It also gives gratifying results in amenorrhea and dysmenorrhea, and being a dependable sexual stimulant it is said to aid in overcoming frigidity in females. This will fill the needle with blood, of which a small amount will be deposited under the skin when the needle is withdrawn, instead of this amount of solution, thus avoiding the bruised effect of the solution on the tissue external to the vein. Apply six or eight hot compresses as soon as the treatment has been completed, or instruct the patients to do so as soon as they return home. The patient should receive the treatment in a reclining position if any symptoms of nervousness are apparent. I was called to see Mrs. H., aged 19, primipara. In labor, the waters having discharged that day. I found the patient only experiencing pre monitory pains, and I left after explaining that my presence was unnecessary until labor had manifested itself in severer pains. The patient was rather delicate and ana mic, and after finding that the waters had discharged I had some misgivings as to whether the labor would be speedy. I heard nothing more from the case until Wednesday evening. When I was again called. I made a vaginal examination, found the presentation natural, the pelvis roomy. And the os dilated to about the size of a quarter of a dollar. I was told that pains had been steady since my first visit, and that the patient was quite tired out. I concluded not to meddle, and returned home, only to be awakened at 3 a. M., Thursday. When I reached the bedside I found the dilatation hardly any greater than when I left the evening before, al though the pains had kept up steadily. They continued at intervals of about five minutes all the morning. With no material change in the es. And although quite sufl'i cient by their long duration to wear out the patient, they seemed not strong enough to produce the desired edect. I tried mas sage or stroking the abdomen, made the patient walk around, and had her change her position on the bed, but nothing caused progress in the dilation of the 08.
