Assessment of DDT and Dieldrin in Groundwater at Point Pelee National Park
Author: Allan Crowe
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 44
Book Description
"Until the 1970's, large areas of Point Pelee National Park (PPNP) were cleared for agricultural use, including orchards and vegetable fields. The pesticides DDT and Dieldrin were widely used in these agricultural areas. Although DDT and Dieldrin have not been used since 1970, high levels of DDT and Dieldrin still persist in the shallow soils within the former orchard. It is suspected that these pesticides may leach to the water table. Thus contaminated groundwater may represent a pathway to exposure to humans through the Park's water supply wells, and to the aquatic ecosystem via groundwater discharge to the marsh"--Abstract.
