Excerpt from Latin School Register, Vol. 23: November, 1903 We won our second league game on Tues day, November 17, by defeating Cambridge Latin School at Charles River Park. Although it was cold and wet, a good crowd of Latin School fellows turned out. The spirit was fine and it is indeed an encouraging thing to notice an increasing tendency towards practical loy alty among the boys of the school. Book Description
Excerpt from The Latin School Register, Vol. 15: June 1896 On May 29, Cambridge High and Latin fol lowed the example set by the other teams, and beat us in a loose game. One of the Clarkson family pitched, but he was hit hard and given poor support. In two innings, especially the third, we allowed them to bat and score at will, and that explains the result. Eight of the errors in Boston's column were made inthe third inning; Maguire's were bad throws. Clarkson did what no other pitcher has been able to do; he struck Maguire out. Book Description
Excerpt from Latin School Register, Vol. 54: March 1935 The realization that college does little more than Open the eyes and instil a sense Of direction is a great asset to the student. He must learn that college will not cajole and guide him through as his school did. He must find his own way as best he can! The choice of college, therefore, is dependent upon ambition, ability, and character. For him who dreams Of brilliant dances, gay parties, and a carefree existence, college is but a happy illusion. For the imitating, the ambitionless, and the curious, college is just that - an illusion. Leaving home does not bring adventure, experience, and struggle, despair, and drudgery are in greater abundance. Attending a school for its renown does not bring prestige; instead, it brings hopelessness. The student Should learn his tastes, learn his will, and have the courage Of his convictions. He must look to college as a personal venture upon which his future happiness or at least his success is dependent.
