Book Description
The eagerly awaited new poetry collection by Mary Jo Bang, winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award We were told that the cloud cover was a blanket about to settle into the shape of the present which, if we wanted to imagine it as a person, would undoubtedly look startled— as after a verbal berating or in advance of a light pistol whipping. The camera came and went, came and went, like a masked man trying to light a too-damp fuse. The crew was acting like a litter of mimics trying to make a killing. Anything to fill the vacuum of time. —from "The Doomsday Clock" The Last Two Seconds is an astonishing confrontation with time—our experience of it as measured out by our perceptions, our lives, and our machines. In these poems, full of vivid imagery and imaginative logic, Mary Jo Bang captures the difficulties inherent in being human in the twenty-first century, when we set our watches by nuclear disasters, species collapse, pollution, mounting inequalities, warring nations, and our own mortality. This is brilliant and profound work by an essential poet of our time.

Book Description
An enchanting collection containing books seven and eight of #1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn’s beloved Regency-set Bridgerton novels, now a series created by Shondaland for Netflix —It’s in His Kiss and On the Way to the Wedding—as well as the first book in her Bridgerton Prequel series, Because of Miss Bridgerton. It’s in His Kiss Gareth St. Clair’s ignoble father is determined to ruin his inheritance. Gareth’s sole bequest is an old family diary, which may hold the key to his future. The problem is it’s written in Italian. Hyacinth Bridgerton has offered to translate. She’s fiendishly smart, devilishly outspoken, and according to Gareth, best in small doses. But there’s something equally charming and vexing about her that draws him in. As they delve into the mysterious text, these two might discover that the answers they seek lie in each other . . . and that there is nothing as simple—or as complicated—as a single, perfect kiss. On the Way to the Wedding Gregory Bridgerton believes he has found his dream woman. Unfortunately, the ravishing Miss Hermione Watson is in love with another. Her best friend, the ever-practical Lady Lucinda Abernathy, wants to save Hermione from a disastrous alliance, and offers to help Gregory win her heart. In the process, Lucy falls in love—with Gregory! But she is already engaged, and her uncle is not inclined to let her out of the betrothal. Now, on the way to the wedding, Gregory must risk everything to ensure that when it comes time to kiss the bride, he is the only man standing at the altar… Because of Miss Bridgerton Everyone expects Billie Bridgerton to marry one of the Rokesby brothers. As a child, tomboyish Billie ran wild with Edward and Andrew. There is only one Rokesby Billie absolutely cannot tolerate. George may be the heir to the earldom, but he’s arrogant, annoying, and she’s certain he detests her. She can’t stand the sight of him either. But when Billie and George are quite literally thrown together, sparks begin to fly. They just might discover that the one person they can’t abide is the one person they can’t live without...

Book Description
Profound changes have occurred in the demography and sociology of Italian fertility since Napoleonic times. Using the statistical system instituted in 1861 with national unification, Massimo Livi-Bacci provides a systematic and detailed analysis of fertility trends in Italy in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. He brings to light the main features of the secular decline: its rapid occurrence in the northern and central areas; the widening urban-rural gap; the shaping of social and economic differences; and the late, slow downward trend in the South. Multivariate statistical analysis enables the author to measure the changing relationship between fertility and social or economic phenomena. Historical evidence illustrates the effect on fertility of mass emigration and Fascist policy as well as of social changes such as those in agrarian structure, mobility, and communications. An altered attitude toward procreation is evident in some parts of Italy in the early nineteenth century. The decline becomes apparent in certain northern and central regions in the 1870s and 1880s and it appears at the aggregate national level in the 1890s. Originally published in 1977. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. Book Description
As the writer's wife fights advanced ovarian cancer, pancreatitis and possible liver cancer, they turn to friends, family and their very different religious beliefs for strength, support and insight. During a dramatic two-year period their lives intersect with others experiencing tragedy, and they draw strength, inspiration and even joy from all of them-every single one of them. Jean Marsicano's life was threatened by ovarian cancer-known to many as the silent killer-and she was joined by her husband, her "Rock," as they focused on fighting the evil which had invaded her body. They counted their blessings, asked if their lives had meaning, and in the face of great adversity, they enjoyed life. Jean survived The Last Two Years thanks to three physicians-"Pal" and "Mitch" who supplied support and direction when they needed it most, and Dr. Goodman, a brilliant young physician who delivered Jean's medical care with skill, wisdom and compassion. As The Last Two Years end, they find hope in the face of continuing uncertainty and joy in friends, family and the beaches of South Carolina. And they realize "God was There," and will always be there with them.

Book Description
Employee ownership firms offer workers the opportunity to own a stake in the firms where they work. This affords them the ability to share in profits and have a voice in firm-related decision-making. In this comprehensive new book, Kurtulus and Kruse provide new evidence on whether employee ownership firms are better equipped to survive recessions. In particular, they focus on broad-based employee ownership, which includes ownership at all levels in the firm’s hierarchy. The authors begin by defining what is meant by “employee ownership” and then discuss the prevalence of such firms in the United States. They also examine how employee ownership affects employment stability and why employee ownership firms have survived recessions more successfully than other firms. Kurtulus and Kruse conclude by saying that the benefits they observed in employee ownership firms, particularly the greater employment stability and survival rates, can help the overall economy. Therefore, increased government support to broaden employee ownership programs is merited.
