Book Description
Have you found some nook on this planet where God seems to be especially present for you? A place where he whispers in your ear or tugs at your heart? If you have, then you will enjoy retreating with Gene Shelburne and eavesdropping on his reflections in such a place. When I bought the tiny house my mother grew up in, I thought I was preparing a retirement home for my aging parents. When a brain tumor robbed me of my mother, that dream died. Little did I know then how much the Lord would bless me as this isolated getaway became the perfect place for me to retreat from my hectic world. During quiet days beside our creek I could read and rest and ponder life, and I found that God whispered to me there in a way he seldom did at home. The truths that surfaced in that special place found their way onto the pages of this book.

A Woman's Guide to Taking Her Place at the Leadership Table "It's time for women to take their places at the leadership tables alongside men. Why? Because the skills we developed at the foot of the table—bringing people together, building bridges across differences, and thinking outside the box—are in great demand. But to use this time and these skills to the greatest advantage, read this book. The authors have set a great meal for you...just devour it." —Marie C. Wilson, president and founder, The White House Project "Does she have the right stuff? That question follows women whenever they are promoted to visible leadership positions. Her Place at the Table lays out the pragmatic moves that can help any woman in business show she has the right stuff. I encourage all women with leadership aspirations to use this book as a guide." —Patricia Fili-Krushel, executive vice president, Time Warner "Women roar—they are the leaders we need in corporations today, but there are still some barriers. Spaces for Children
Author: T.G. David
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1468452274
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 333
Book Description
As a developmental psychologist with a strong interest in children's re sponse to the physical environment, I take particular pleasure in writing a foreword to the present volume. It provides impressive evidence of the con cern that workers in environmental psychology and environmental design are displaying for the child as a user of the designed environment and indi cates a recognition of the need to apply theory and findings from develop mental and environmental psychology to the design of environments for children. This seems to me to mark a shift in focus and concern from the earlier days of the interaction between environmental designers and psy chologists that occurred some two decades ago and provided the impetus for the establishment of environmental psychology as a subdiscipline. Whether because children-though they are consumers of designed environments are not the architect's clients or because it seemed easier to work with adults who could be asked to make ratings of environmental spaces and comment on them at length, a focus on the child in interaction with en vironments was comparatively slow in developing in the field of environ ment and behavior. As the chapters of the present volume indicate, that situation is no longer true today, and this is a change that all concerned with the well-being and optimal functioning of children will welcome.
