Book Description
Excerpt from Plans for Reform of the International Monetary System It is symptomatic of the tempo with which economic matters conditions, institutions, policies, and plans - are changing nowadays that. A paper describing current plans for reform of the international monetary system calls for a new and much enlarged edition within one year. This new edition exceeds the obsolete version by 34 per cent in terms of words printed. The number of footnotes increased from 69 in the first edition to 105, or by 52 per cent, an increase which is accounted for, not by afterthoughts, but by new publications relevant to the subject. Book Description
Excerpt from International Monetary Reform Mr. Gonzales. The joint subcommittees will come to order, and let me say at the outset that for the sake Of economy energy on the part of our administrators, who oftentimes find them having to come to about a half a dozen different legislative panels, we thought at this time on the eve of the House subcommittee going into the question Of the International Development Association that it would be well to come back to our pre-august situation on international monetary prob lems, and since the Joint Economic Subcommittee was interested in the same thing, happily Chairman Reuss broached the idea Of a joint meeting and we all agreed with it to be a very good one. The Joint Economic Committee and the House Subcommittee on International Finance have a joint interest, and I think properly so, on the stability Of the world monetary system. Book Description
This book investigates the impact of International Monetary Fund (IMF) programmes on macroeconomic instability and economic growth in recipient countries. Employing the New Institutional Economics approach as an analytical framework, it identifies the determinants of economic and political institutional quality by taking into account a broad variety of indicators such as parliamentary forms of government, the aggregate governance level, civil and economic liberties, property rights etc. The book subsequently estimates the impact of these institutional determinants on real economic growth, both directly and also indirectly, through the channel of macroeconomic instability, in recipient countries. Moreover, it illustrates the effectiveness of IMF programmes in the case of Pakistan, a frequent user of IMF resources.

Book Description
Excerpt from International Monetary Problems and the Foreign Exchanges The arrangement of the material may require some explanation. The opening chapter is a rather extensive introduction to some of the current problems of the real world. The systematic exposition of the theoretical groundwork begins with Chapter II. This may appear as a reversal of the logical order of treatment. The reasons for adopting it were frankly psychological: it has been my experience that many readers outside a small circle of theoretically oriented economists want to see for what purposes theoretical analysis is to be used before they are willing to invest time in it. Readers who are not so inclined may just as well start with Chapter II and read the introductory first chapter at the very end. Literature references in the text are kept to a minimum; instead, I have appended an annotated bibliography. Many economists appear to believe that members of our profession ought never to offer clear and unambiguous policy advice. Those who are thus inclined will not, I am afraid, be likely to derive comfort from the following pages. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
