Book Description
Master's Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, grade: 2.1, Sheffield Hallam University, language: English, abstract: Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has been a complex topic, however its fundamental features have enabled it to shape the world we live in and is the backbone of many countries who would not survive without it. Being part of the European Union (EU), the United Kingdom (UK) was cocooned in a union full of rules and regulations that did not please its residents. The decision to leave the EU was taken and therefore these rules and regulations are not applicable and this in turn will drastically affect FDI. Despite being one of the world’s greatest powerhouse, Brexit offers a great threat to its industries that have had solid foundations within the EU as well as the workforce it holds as the UK holds over 3 million EU nationals. The UK offers an abundance of incentives for investors although these have been affected by 3 the UK’s top industries, Banking and Finance, Oil and Gas and Manufacturing with many companies in these industries agreeing that Brexit will have a negative impact on their business practices even with the government trying to get the best Brexit deal. This dissertation will critically analyse the literature on FDI and how the host country determinates will be used in order to analyse their affect and how it would differ after Brexit. The UK’s attractiveness for FDI was evident in the results that were obtained, which provided a similar theme to variables within the host country determinates that in turn allowed for recommendations to be made on the industries and how future practices could be handled.

Order your copy today and equip yourself with the knowledge to navigate the evolving economic landscape shaped by Brexit. The Referendum in 2016 which led to the Brexit was a game-changing event for both politics and the economy in Great Britain and the European Union. For the first time ever in history, a country decided to leave the EU. From the beginning it was clear that this decision would have both political and economic consequences. The UK was the second-largest economy in the EU and a very important location for the financial sector. The city of London is one of the largest business areas in total Europe. Before the referendum in 2016, many experts were concerned about the consequences of a “leave”-vote. George Osborne, the british minister of finance warned that the Brexit will cost every household 4300 pounds per year. According to the financial times, the GDP in the year 2030 would be six percent lower if they leave the European union, under the condition of a trade agreement between the two partners. This Bachelor ́s thesis will focus on the impact of Brexit on the foreign direct investment in the UK and the consequences for example on the job market. The first part will be the summary of the working paper. “The Influence of Brexit on the Foreign direct Investment Projects and Inflows in the United Kingdom”, that was written by Mihaela Simionescu and was provided in cooperation with the Global labour Organization (GLO).

Book Description
Americans have long been ambivalent toward foreign direct investment in the United States. Foreign multinational corporations may be a source of capital, technology, and jobs. But what are the implications for US workers, firms, communities, and consumers as the United States remains the most popular destination for foreign multinational investment? Theodore H. Moran and Lindsay Oldenski find that foreign multinational firms that invest in the United States are, alongside US-headquartered American multinationals, the most productive and highest-paying segment of the US economy. These firms conduct more research and development, provide more value added to US domestic inputs, and export more goods and services than other firms in the US economy. The superior technology and management techniques they employ spill over horizontally and vertically to improve the performance of local firms and workers. As the United States wants not only to expand employment but also create well-paying jobs that reverse the falling earnings that many US workers and middle class families have suffered in recent decades, it is more important than ever to enhance the United States as a destination for multinational investors
