Book Description
Golden Bracelets, Common Threads is the fictional story of the Ramón family whose quest for religious freedom leads to the New World. In 1485, King Ferdinand's Inquisitor is assassinated spurring a brutal massacre of the Jewish community. Young Moisés escapes. His exodus, guided by Fate, leads him to Portugal with two golden bracelets, mementos of love and remembrance, which he slips from the wrists of his dead mother. He takes a voyage of discovery to Brazil, Africa, and India. He settles in northeast Brazil. Generations later, when the merciless Portuguese Inquisitors arrive, Moisés' descendant must flee. His exodus to New Amsterdam in 1654 fulfills his family's Destiny. Six generations are linked by the common threads of tradition and by the two golden bracelets, symbols of the family's historic journey. Skillfully written and richly detailed, Golden Bracelets, Common Threads is an entertaining and entirely believable historical fiction novel about Fate, Family, and Destiny.

Tales from the Cloud Walking Country
Author: Marie Campbell
Publisher: University of Georgia Press
ISBN: 9780820321868
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 276
Book Description
Assembled here are seventy-eight stories from six of the "ballad-singingest, tale-tellingest" residents of the eastern Kentucky mountain country. Based on stories rooted in European traditions from German fairy tales to Irish hero stories to Greek myths, the tales had been handed down through generations of telling before Marie Campbell collected them in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Readers will recognize the story of Snow White in "A Stepchild That Was Treated Mighty Bad," while "Three Shirts and a Golden Finger Ring" recalls the fairy tale of the Seven Swans. "The Fellow That Married A Dozen Times" is a lively rendition of "Bluebeard." As the narrators cautioned Marie Campbell again and again, "Tale-telling is nigh about faded out in the mountain country," but Tales from the Cloud Walking Country offers a lasting record of history, cultural heritage, language, and good old-fashioned fun.

Book Description
From July 7 to 12, 2008 in Zelenogradsk, a cosy resort on the bank of the Baltic Sea near Kaliningrad in Russia, the 1st International Conference “Atmosphere, Ionosphere, Safety (AIS-2008)” has been carried out. The International conference “Atmosphere, Ionosphere, Safety” (AIS-2008) was devoted to (i) the analysis of the atmosphere–ionosphere response on natural and man-made processes, the reasons of occurrence of the various accompanying geophysical phenomena, and an estimation of possible consequences of their in?uence on the person and technological systems; (ii) the study of the monitoring possibility and search of the ways for the risk level decrease. Discussion of the physical and chemical processes accompanying the observable geophysical p- nomena was undertaken. One can see from a list of the Conference sections that questions of safety took only rather modest place, so main topics of the Conference became discussion of processes taking place in the atmosphere, ionosphere and methods of monitoring these processes.
