Book Description
This is a collection of independent works on the GLOBUS model. A first and basic application of the GLOBUS model was made through the computation of its standard run for the years 1970-2010. Stated in the simplest possible terms GLOBUS is a computer simulation model of many important macropolitical and macroeconomic relationships within and among 25 prominent contemporary nations plus a rest-of-world entity. It is designed and used to explore possible solutions to long-term global problems.

Book Description
Component Models and Systems for Grid Applications is the essential reference for the most current research on Grid technologies. This first volume of the CoreGRID series addresses such vital issues as the architecture of the Grid, the way software will influence the development of the Grid, and the practical applications of Grid technologies for individuals and businesses alike. Part I of the book, "Application-Oriented Designs", focuses on development methodology and how it may contribute to a more component-based use of the Grid. "Middleware Architecture", the second part, examines portable Grid engines, hierarchical infrastructures, interoperability, as well as workflow modeling environments. The final part of the book, "Communication Frameworks", looks at dynamic self-adaptation, collective operations, and higher-order components. With Component Models and Systems for Grid Applications, editors Vladimir Getov and Thilo Kielmann offer the computing professional and the computing researcher the most informative, up-to-date, and forward-looking thoughts on the fast-growing field of Grid studies.

Book Description
Finding an alternative to supplement military ways of resolving international conflicts has been taken up by many people skilled in various areas such as political science, economics, social studies, modelling and simulation, artificial intelligence and expert systems, military strategy and weaponry as well as private business and industry. The Workshop will therefore be of use as it looks at various control methods which would create a conciliatory social and political environment or climate for seeking and obtaining non-military solutions to international conflicts and to solutions to national conflicts which may lead to international conflicts.

Book Description
Deep brain stimulation has been used effectively for many years to treat patients suffering from Parkinson's disease. Now, neurologists and neurosurgeons are using electric pulse generators to block abnormal activity, i.e. epileptic fits. Promising research results indicate that electric pulses implanted deep in the brain can affect neurocircuitry and help stop oncoming seizures. Supplying a solid background on brain stimulation and its application to epilepsy, Deep Brain Stimulation and Epilepsy provides a historical overview, explores pathogenesis of brain stimulation, discusses animal experiments and human studies, and explores future prospects of brain stimulation for epileptic control. The editor and his team of contributors distill information drawn directly from the literature into one convenient resource.

Book Description
This trilogy deals with an epistemology of economics, arguing for a radical overturning of conventional analysis and providing an alternative to political economy and social sciences, based not on positivism, but on a normative and programming paradigm. Volume III furthers and concludes work presented in Volume I and Volume II, and introduces a concrete and practical example of how to build a Planning Accounting Framework (PAF), as associated with Frisch's 'plan-frame' (explored in Volume II), to demonstrate the extent to which decisions and negotiations can be routed in the social sciences. The PAF is an instrument of the programming approach that can be used to verify the compatibility of decisions and their effects. The author builds on Frisch's classical PAF to maximise the phenomenology of economic systems, and assure a consistent and effective implementation of decision making.

Book Description
The EDI study PDF book of cognitive psychology. Statistical research on evolutionary psychology with Wechsler and Stanford Binet IQ test variables of families, including both parents, brothers and twins computer generated artificial intelligence quotients. The purpose of this statistical research of cognitive psychology is to validate the model about the hereditary nature of relational intelligence, which has been developed to prove the GTCEL (General Theory of Conditional Evolution of Life) through the detection of the existence of the genetic information verification method (GIV) The results of the cognitive psychology research have been totally satisfactory; not only does it show the hereditary nature of IQ measurements but also that the genetic information with less intellectual potential is the significant one. The increase of the genetic intellectual ability of only a particular ancestor, substantially improves the adjustment of the model in its simulation when using sensitivity analysis. This fact would imply the existence of a teleological or finalist evolution and, consequently, that theories of random mutations and natural selection would no longer constitute the main components of evolution. However, the demonstration of a teleological evolution would not imply that the aspects advocated by the movement of Intelligent Design are correct. The EDI Study has validated an additional hypothesis of the GTCEL on sexual differentiation and the influence in evolution of a certain requisite when forming a couple regarding intelligence. The validation of the new hypothesis simultaneously reinforces the model's overall coherence.

Book Description
The basal ganglia has received much attention over the last two decades, as it has been implicated in many neurological and psychiatric disorders. Most of this research—in both animals and humans—attempt to understand the neural and biochemical substrates of basic motor and learning processes, and how these are affected in human patients as well as animal models of brain disorders. The current volume contains research articles and reviews describing basic, pre-clinical and clinical neuroscience research of the basal ganglia written by attendees of the 11th Triennial Meeting of the International Basal Ganglia Society (IBAGS) that was held March 3-7th, 2013 at the Princess Hotel, Eilat, Israel and by researchers of the basal ganglia. Specifically, articles in this volume include research reports on the biochemistry, computational theory, anatomy and physiology of single neurons and functional circuitry of the basal ganglia networks as well as the latest data on animal models of basal ganglia dysfunction and clinical studies in human patients.

Book Description
Welcome to the proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Algorithms and Architectures for Parallel Processing (ICA3PP 2008). ICA3PP 2008 consist of two keynote addresses, seven technical sessions, and one tutorial. Included in these proceedings are papers whose authors are from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Cyprus, France, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Germany, Greece, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tunisia, UAE, UK, and USA. Each paper was rigorously reviewed by at least three Program Committee members and/or external revi- ers, and the acceptance ratio is 35%. These papers were presented over seven technical sessions. Based on the paper review results, three papers were selected as the best papers. We would like to thank the many people who helped make this conference a successful event. We thank all authors who submitted their work to ICA3PP 2008, and all Program Committee members and additional reviewers for their diligent work in the paper review process ensuring a collection of high-quality papers. We are grateful to Hong Shen University of Adelaide, Australia and Kleanthis Psarris University of Texas at San Antonio, United States, for their willingness to be the keynote speakers. Our thanks go to Hai Jin and George Papapodoulos, the conference General Co-chairs, and Andrzej Goscinski, W- lei Zhou and Yi Pan, the conference Steering Committee Co-chairs for help in many aspects of organizing this conference. Finally, we thank all the conference participants for traveling to Cyprus.

Book Description
This book investigates technology's potential for stimulating and strengthening approaches that can lead to the peaceful solution of international conflicts. It discusses the causes of war; the political and social implications of neighbourhood and international involvement, and evaluates various aid programmes. Models are applied to methods of mediation and simulating power distribution and decision making to show how modern technology can be used to promote resolution in the event of conflict.
