Book Description
Excerpt from The Fruit Situation, Vol. 141: October 1961 The combined 1962 crop of all deciduous fruits may not be as heavy as the large 1961 crop, but citrus production is expected to continue large. The tree nut crop probably will be below the record output this year. The above prospects rest upon average weather and growing conditions, the main factors in year-to-year changes in production. Consumer demand for fruit, supported by rising incomes, is expected to be strong again in 1962. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from The Fruit Situation, Vol. 73: October 1944 Prices received by farmers in 19hh for fruit, both citrus and deciduou generally were at levels approximately twice the averages for the 5 - year (1935 - 39) period. Prices for the 19hb-mm citrus crop, the marketing of which is nearly completed, averaged slightly above prices for the preceding crop. In contrast, prices for most deciduous fruits of the 19uu crop are averaging slightly below those for the short 19h} crop. Although the 19mh apple crop is about one - third larger than the 19k} crop, prices received by farmers for apples on October 15, 19h, were nearly as high as a year earlier. Continued high consumer incomes and large noncivilian requirements are the principal factors contributing to the relatively high prices received by farmers for fruit this year. Book Description
Excerpt from The Fruit Situation, Vol. 130: January 1959 Heavier remaining supplies of oranges, tangerines and grapefruit than a year ago, and about as many lemons and apples, but smaller quantities of pears and dried, canned, and frozen fruits and juices are highlights in the fruit situation at the start of 1959. Citrus prices are in transition to lower levels from the unusually high prices that followed the freeze damage last winter, the slowly increasing apple prices are fluctuating around a year earlier, and the prices of most processed fruits are continuing higher than a year ago. The outlook for exports of fresh fruit is not as good as a year ago, mainly because of larger crops in other countries, but the outlook for airports of processed items continues favorable. Book Description
Excerpt from The Fruit Situation: June 22, 1938 About average fruit crops are in prospect this year. Because of the relatively low purchasing power of consumers, however, prices to growers may not be much improved over those received for the large 1937 crops, according to the Bureau of Agricultural Economics. Incomes of industrial workers, an important measure of consumer purchasing power for fruits, are about 30 per cent lower than a year earlier. Another unfavorable factor in the situation this season is the unusually large carry-over of canned and dried fruits, and the demand for canning and drying probably Will be much less than in 1937. This Situation will naturally force a larger-than-usual proportion of the deciduous fruits into fresh fruit marketing channels.
