Book Description
One boy. One prophecy. One choice. George is young, impaired, and completely alone. He is responsible for the death of his parents and the reason why one inquisitive Faun needs to protect him. Maliciously treated by his stepfather, George wears the scars of his torment across his back. He cannot escape his stepfather, and he has all but given up hope of ever doing so. But when he peers through the window of his stepfather's shack one night, he sees something strange: an earless creature in the middle of the street. Intrigued by it, George saves it from the road, and the next thing he knows, he's in the middle of nowhere. Before he can enjoy his freedom, however, George is forced into a fiendish forest where he crosses paths with a Witch, Tamsin, and witnesses the callousness of nature as it turns on them. Evading death, George and Tamsin are saved by Thumbalas, a Faun, who identifies George as the Dryatrix: a prophesied force said to be the saviour or destroyer of the natural world.

Book Description
Composite Materials, Volume 3: Engineering Applications of Composites covers a variety of applications of both low- and high-cost composite materials in a number of business sectors, including material systems used in the electrical and nuclear industries. The book discusses the utilization of carbon-fiber reinforced plastics for a number of high-volume products; applications in road transportation; and the application of composite materials to civil aircraft structures. The text also describes the engineering considerations that enter into the selection and application of materials, as well as the composite applications in existing spacecraft hardware and includes projected applications for space vehicles and systems. The application of materials to military aircraft structure; the components applicable to personal and mass-transit vehicles; and composites in the ocean engineering industry are also considered. The book further tackles composite materials or composite structures principally found in buildings; composite uses in the chemical industries; and examples of fiber-glass-reinforced plastic components in key end-product markets. The text also looks into the most commonly employed molding techniques, mechanical and physical properties of various fiber glass-reinforced thermosets and thermoplastics, the resins and fiber-glass reinforcements available, and code information. The chemical, physical, and mechanical properties and application information about composites in the electrical and nuclear industries; and the potential high-volume applications of advanced composites are also encompassed. Engineers and people involved in the development of composite materials will find the book invaluable.

Book Description
Polymers, plastics, and composite materials are widely used in the shipping industry and so get exposed to marine waters. Biofouling of these leads to problems for ships and boats in the form of reduced speed and corrosion, which these industries would like to prevent. Several hundred thousand tons of plastics that are discarded reach the marine environment every year either from land run-off or because of maritime activities. It has been estimated that because plastics do not degrade easily, one million marine animals are killed every year either by choking on floating plastic items or by becoming entangled in plastic debris. For the shipping industry the polymer should not foul and should be stable for extended periods of time in the marine environment. For the environmentalist the waste dumped after its use should degrade fast without causing problems to flora and fauna as well to the coastal economies. Addressing one of these issues leads to enhancement of the other issue and so this is not an easy problem to solve. This book covers the interaction of polymers with the marine environment, the problems they cause to ecology, their biofouling and biodegradation, and possible solutions.
