Book Description
This exciting new book, the result of five years of research and writing, is the first-ever in-depth study of the leading vessel in the European glassmakers repertoire between 1650 and 1950. In presenting the subject on a wide stage, The Decanter provides the reader with a history of European and American glassmaking from a decanter perspective. Illustrated by photographs, patterns and drawings of thousands of examples drawn from numerous public and private collections, the text encompasses the stylistic and technical evolution of fine glassmaking and its influences and social uses. Drawing from hundreds of documentary sources and benefiting from the knowledge and experience of scores of experts in Britain, Europe and the United States, The Decanter is the most comprehensive and current history of fine glassmaking ever published. It provides a glossary of the names of all familiar shapes for the first time and dispels the innumerable myths surrounding the subject. Written by a former journal

Book Description
Scope of Publication A reference work for process designers and users of decanters, this book aims to bridge the information gap in this field - that between academic theory promoted in student textbooks and case study data in manufacturers sales literature. Design It includes information on design and specification, preparing the reader to select and correctly size equipment. Purchase As a design or project engineer working with vendors to make final equipment selection, this work provides the readers with the full facts before they start talking to product vendors. Supply In an environment of industry consolidation, the handbook allows you to track suppliers old and new, providing a basis on which users can find the new relevant company for the parts/service he/she wishes to purchase. Operation Once an equipment purchase is made, the user needs to be made aware of how to optimally operate decanters. The Decanter Centrifuge Handbook covers relevant (process) operating issues such as instrumentation and control and the use of flocculents.

Book Description
ONE OF A FOUR-BOOK COLLECTION SPOTLIGHTING CLASSIC ARTICLES Five decades of landmark original research findings andreviews Highlighting some of the most important findings reported overthe past five decades, this volume features some of the besttechnical papers published on alumina and bauxite from 1963 to2011. Papers have been divided into thirteen subject sections forease of access. Each section has a brief introduction and a list ofrecommended articles for researchers interested in exploring eachsubject in greater depth. Only about fifteen percent of the alumina and bauxite papersever published in Light Metals were chosen for this volume.Selection was based on a rigorous review process. Among the papers, readers will find landmark original research findings and expertreviews summarizing current thinking on key topics at the time ofpublication. From basic research to advanced applications, the articlespublished in this volume collectively represent our body ofknowledge in alumina and bauxite. Students, scientists, andengineers should turn to this volume to discover the historicaldevelopment of alumina and bauxite research as well as the currentstate of the science and the technology. Moreover, the paperspublished in this volume will serve as a springboard for futureresearch and discoveries.

Book Description
The practical guide on what to do right when biological influences cause a sequencing batch reactor to go wrong This richly illustrated, straightforward guide carries forth the legacy established by previous editions in the Wiley Wastewater Microbiology series by focusing attention on the mixed gathering of organisms cohabitating within a sequencing batching reactor (SBR), and the key roles their biology plays in this wastewater processing tank's function. With a clear, user-friendly presentation of complex subject matter, Troubleshooting the Sequence Batch Reactor first teaches plant operators how to differentiate the positive and expected organismal dynamics present in optimal SBR performance from the negative and damaging ones that create unhealthy sludge, and a stoppage in SBR operations. Next, Troubleshooting the Sequence Batch Reactor delivers all the tools necessary to get an SBR back on track and running safely. In this book you'll get: Short-course situations tested by the author for the past fifteen years Accessible material aimed at operators instead of design and consulting engineers Essential information for understanding biological conditions such as aerobic, anoxic, and anaerobic/fermentative at the treatment process Examination of the properties of protozoa (single-celled) and metazoa (multi-celled) organisms, and their significance in wastewater treatment Devoid of overwhelming scientific jargon, chemical equations, and kinetics, this book simplifies details to provide quick instruction for plant operators on how to make more informed day-to-day process control decisions, how to troubleshoot confidently when SBR conditions become compromised, and how to act decisively when the problem is ultimately identified.

Book Description
This book deals with the design and integration of chemical processes, emphasizing the conceptual issues that are fundamental to the creation of the process. Chemical process design requires the selection of a series of processing steps and their integration to form a complete manufacturing system. The text emphasizes both the design and selection of the steps as individual operations and their integration. Also, the process will normally operate as part of an integrated manufacturing site consisting of a number of processes serviced by a common utility system. The design of utility systems has been dealt with in the text so that the interactions between processes and the utility system and interactions between different processes through the utility system can be exploited to maximize the performance of the site as a whole. Chemical processing should form part of a sustainable industrial activity. For chemical processing, this means that processes should use raw materials as efficiently as is economic and practicable, both to prevent the production of waste that can be environmentally harmful and to preserve the reserves of raw materials as much as possible. Processes should use as little energy as economic and practicable, both to prevent the build-up of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere from burning fossil fuels and to preserve reserves of fossil fuels. Water must also be consumed in sustainable quantities that do not cause deterioration in the quality of the water source and the long-term quantity of the reserves. Aqueous and atmospheric emissions must not be environmentally harmful, and solid waste to landfill must be avoided. Finally, all aspects of chemical processing must feature good health and safety practice. It is important for the designer to understand the limitations of the methods used in chemical process design. The best way to understand the limitations is to understand the derivations of the equations used and the assumptions on which the equations are based. Where practical, the derivation of the design equations has been included in the text. The book is intended to provide a practical guide to chemical process design and integration for undergraduate and postgraduate students of chemical engineering, practicing process designers and chemical engineers and applied chemists working in process development. Examples have been included throughout the text. Most of these examples do not require specialist software and can be performed on spreadsheet software. Finally, a number of exercises have been added at the end of each chapter to allow the reader to practice the calculation procedures.

Book Description
Advances in Sustainable Applications of Microalgae discusses different mechanisms used by microalgae to treat various gaseous streams, wastewaters, and pollution bioremediation. In addition, the advantages of the application of microalgal biomass in the agricultural and food/feed sectors are presented and bioenergy from microalgae with a view to sustainability is explored. The present covers the use of microalgal cultures in various applications, such as: the treatment of gaseous streams by removing various contaminants, wastewater treatment through the removal of several pollutants, biomass valorization for agriculture purposes, bioenergy from microalgae, and industrial integration of all these processes in a biorefinery concept. Finally, the book emphasizes the importance of gathering scientific knowledge to overcome drawbacks related to microalgal production and develops the concept of biorefinery based on microalgal biomass for a more sustainable future. - Presents recent advances and future trends in the microalgal field - Provides an integrated point-of-view of the applications as a concept of biorefinery based on microalgal biomass for a more sustainable future - Explores wastewater treatment, heavy metals, environmental contaminants, and nutrient recovery in relation to microalgae cultivation - Emphasizes sustainability aspects of microalgae cultivation and processing which provides an outlook on the integrated processes available that can enhance the biomass production and its environmental impact
