Book Description
Excerpt from The Connecticut Evangelical Magazine, and Religious Intelligencer, 1813, Vol. 6 Have been distinguished for cruel bigotry and shedding the blood of the saints.-racks, tortures and inquisition, have marked their government in Europe, and in every other country where it was established. The blood of the saints, and the blood of millions of slaughtered Indians in the East and West, cries for vengeance. God hath heard the cry, and is now giving them blood to drink. That apparently successful struggle which they are making for their independence is probably intended, by divine justice, to con tinue and complete their torments. The fuel on which divine anger feeds is not yet consumed, in those countries. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from The Connecticut Evangelical Magazine; And Religious Intelligencer, 1809, Vol. 2 The first is in articles of foreign religious intelli gence, which is highly interesting to all who love the character and kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thrfimmwmawmofmcddwmm, has arisen to its highest pitch, and the are wide spread, together with a l interruption of intercourse between ourown and t countries, hath almost wholly prevented those communications by which the friends of Christ made each other's hearts re joice. So long as we are in the world, we must partake of its troubles and interruptions with submission, believ ing that all events are directed by infinite wisdom. On these accounts, the numerous societies of good men, associated for the pu ose of disseminating sacred knowledge, and dispensmg their charities abroad, have been much impeded. But let not Christians despair, the Lord will provide in the darkest times. The lowering heavens shall soon be composed, and the sun of righteousness shine brighter than ever on this benight ed world. When the ambitious intend to promote their own worldly purposes, the glorious head of the church means by them as instruments, to correct error, punish vice and fill the world with the glory of his grace. Book Description
Excerpt from The Evangelical Magazine, Vol. 11: For the Year 1803 As a friend, Mr. Raban' was kind, faithful, constant, and dis interested. His ear and his heart were ever accessdile, ever open to the communications of a friend; perhaps his wish to do good to all, within his sphere of influence, might be car ried too far by him, considering his numerous engagements; On this subject he often lamented that many professors, while they apparently ay a great attention to the precepts of the first table, overlook the second: on the contrary, he maintained, both by doctrine and example, that a due regard to our neigh bour would be a decided proof of our love to God.
