Book Description
Understanding the principles in this book is the mental side of the training. Though out your training you will need to develop your Spiritual (your walk with the Lord Jesus), the Mental (principles and strategies) and the Physical (the martial art of American Ninjutsu). Students over the years have talked about a day when everything just clicked. The “click” happens when the spiritual, mental and physical all comes together. This is the “Concept of One”. Most students “clicked” between blue belt and brown belt. The objective of this book is to have the “click” happen sooner. Don’ t worry if you do not completely understand the principles in this book right away. As you progress through classes, a moment will come when the principle will click with the application. Some principles are easier to grasp than others, just remember to never give up and keep referring to this book. After each principle some space is left open you can write notes of your own. Record the things that help make the principles click, (techniques that relate to the principle, dates that something clicked or rank that the principle made sense). It will be a diary of sorts on your self-defense journey. Good luck and good training, Ray Rentschler

Book Description
Concepts embody our knowledge of the kinds of things there are in the world. Tying our past experiences to our present interactions with the environment, they enable us to recognize and understand new objects and events. Concepts are also relevant to understanding domains such as social situations, personality types, and even artistic styles. Yet like other phenomenologically simple cognitive processes such as walking or understanding speech, concept formation and use are maddeningly complex. Research since the 1970s and the decline of the "classical view" of concepts have greatly illuminated the psychology of concepts. But persistent theoretical disputes have sometimes obscured this progress. The Big Book of Concepts goes beyond those disputes to reveal the advances that have been made, focusing on the major empirical discoveries. By reviewing and evaluating research on diverse topics such as category learning, word meaning, conceptual development in infants and children, and the basic level of categorization, the book develops a much broader range of criteria than is usual for evaluating theories of concepts.

Book Description
One of the most important texts of modern times, Herbert Marcuse's analysis and image of a one-dimensional man in a one-dimensional society has shaped many young radicals' way of seeing and experiencing life. Published in 1964, it fast became an ideological bible for the emergent New Left. As Douglas Kellner notes in his introduction, Marcuse's greatest work was a 'damning indictment of contemporary Western societies, capitalist and communist.' Yet it also expressed the hopes of a radical philosopher that human freedom and happiness could be greatly expanded beyond the regimented thought and behaviour prevalent in established society. For those who held the reigns of power Marcuse's call to arms threatened civilization to its very core. For many others however, it represented a freedom hitherto unimaginable.
