Book Description
Good communiation is essential to any healthy relationship, whether it's between spouses, family members, friends, or co-workers. In this book Susan Chapman, a marriage and family therapist and a longtime meditation teacher, explains how mindfulness can be brought to bear in the way we speak and listen to each other so that we can strengthen our connections and better accomplish our goals. Drawing on Buddhist principles and on her training as a psychotherapist, Chapman explains how the practice of mindfulness—learning to become fully present in the moment—makes it possible for us to listen more deeply to others and to develop greater clarity and confidence about how to respond. Chapman highlights five key elements of mindful communication: silence, mirroring, encouraging, discerning, and responding, and she dedicates a chapter of the book to each. Other topics include identifying your communication patterns and habits; uncovering the hidden fears that often sabotage communication; staying open in the midst of difficult conversations so that we can respond wisely and skillfully; and learning how mindful communication can help us to become more truthful, compassionate, and flexible in our relationships.

Book Description
Whether we realize it or not, the words we use dictate and control our lives. The persistent messages we repeat can frame our thoughts and trap us into a mind-set that is difficult to break. This mind-set often manifests itself with statements like "I can’t," "I’m not good enough," and "I’ll never find the [insert the blank] I want." Many times, we don’t stop to consider the profound impact that these negative, limiting words have on our mentality, life choices, and the path of possibility that we manifest. After gathering years of research and personal experience with how words affect individuals mentally and emotionally, business owner and communications specialist Mary Shores realized that there is a life-changing theme persistent throughout ancient traditions and spiritual foundations that is supported by scientific professionals. They all agree on one recurring truth: Words have the power to create and transform. Mary took her discoveries and created easy-to-follow, step-by-step practices that can transform each area of your life. Based on two decades of research, Mary teaches how you can create new neural pathways simply by changing your words. You can align your words, thoughts, and actions to produce the results you want. Conscious Communications can show you how! Conscious Communications is your guide to creating a life in alignment with your dreams and desires. With thoroughly tested exercises, research, advice, and personal stories, you will begin to experience the tremendous impact of words and how to utilize the right ones to unleash and unlock the power to create a new reality.

Book Description
With a passion for connecting with people, author Nikki Porter opens an honest and vulnerable conversation about the importance of clear and mindful communication in achieving healthy relationships and a happy life. In The Conscious Communicator, she uses her experience with horses to add insight to where miscommunications, unnecessary drama, and frustration originate. Porter discusses concepts used to train horses which focus on conscious, clear, and compassionate communication and applies them to all relationships. With a mix of research and honest, personal perspective, Porter encourages you to become more conscious of your communication with others by shining the light inward and allowing you to change your approach and perspective when interacting with people in all facets of life. Porter argues you must become conscious of your thoughts and emotions in order to take responsibility for how you communicate daily. The Conscious Communicator offers exercises that determine your communication strengths and weaknesses. It reminds you to live a life true to yourself by creating healthy boundaries and letting go of what doesn’t serve your growth and happiness. Along with the encouragement to become more mindful, she reassures you this isn’t a quest for perfection where you’ll never encounter an argument again, it’s a pursuit of creating and maintaining relationships which bring joy.

Book Description
The capacity to express what you want in life with clarity is a prerequisite for emotional well-being. This can be learned and is not a natural talent. You learned from people who were not skilled at communicating their wants, which is why you are not good at doing so. Making it as simple as possible for another person to fulfill your desire by asking for the precise behavior that will do so is the fundamental tenet of conscious communication. People sometimes try to make up for their feelings of vulnerability by acting aggressively and threateningly, hoping that this would boost their chances of receiving what they want. This strategy frequently produces the opposite result. A demand suggests that the donor has the right to dictate to others since the recipient is of lower worth than the giver. You won't likely submit to my requests without resistance and resentment, even if you do. You will eventually become unwilling to obey my orders and stop providing for my requirements. All connections, including those with your friends, family, coworkers, kids, and parents, fall under the umbrella of this rule. GRAB A COPY OF THIS BOOK NOW AND HAVE A GOOD READ.

Book Description
This book introduces context-aware computing, providing definitions, categories, characteristics, and context awareness itself and discussing its applications with a particular focus on smart learning environments. It also examines the elements of a context-aware system, including acquisition, modelling, reasoning, and distribution of context. It also reviews applications of context-aware computing – both past and present – to offer readers the knowledge needed to critically analyse how context awareness can be put to use. It is particularly to those new to the subject area who are interested in learning how to develop context-aware computing-oriented applications, as well as postgraduates and researchers in computer engineering, communications engineering related areas of information technology (IT). Further it provides practical know-how for professionals working in IT support and technology, consultants and business decision-makers and those working in the medical, human, and social sciences.

Book Description
Advances in wireless communications and networking technology have taken us towards a pervasively connected world in which a vast array of wireless devices, from mobile phones to environmental sensors, seamlessly communicate with each other. In many of these systems the freshness of the transmitted information is of high importance. Characterization of time-critical information can be achieved through the so-called real-time status updates that are messages, encapsulated in packets, carrying the timestamp of their generation. Status updates track time-varying content that needs to be transmitted from the generation point to a remote destination in a network. To quantify the freshness of information in networked systems, a novel metric, different from delay or latency, termed as “age of information” (AoI) has been introduced. In this thesis, we focus on characterizing and controlling age under various communication system setups. The first part of the thesis considers multiple access communication systems and comprises two papers. The first paper, investigates AoI in relation with throughput in a shared access setup with heterogeneous traffic. More specifically, we consider a shared access system consisting of a primary link and a network of secondary nodes, with multipacket reception (MPR) capabilities. To study the joint throughput-timeliness performance, we formulate two optimization problems considering both objectives and provide guidelines for the design of such a multiple access system satisfying both timeliness and throughput requirements. In the second paper, we study the AoI performance in various multiple access schemes, including scheduling and random access. We present an analysis of the AoI with and without packet management at the transmission queue of the source nodes, considering that packet management is the capability to replace unserved packets in the queue whenever newer ones arrive. We incorporate the effect of channel fading and network path diversity in such a system and provide simulation results that illustrate the impact of network operating parameters on the performance of the considered access protocols. The second part of the thesis considers the characterization of AoI and other freshness performance metrics in a point-to-point communication link, again comprising two papers. In the third paper of this thesis, we expand the concept of information ageing by introducing the cost of update delay (CoUD) metric to characterize the cost of having stale information at the destination. Furthermore, we introduce the value of information of update (VoIU) metric that captures the degree of importance of the update received at the destination. We employ queue-theoretic concepts and provide a theoretical analysis and insights into the prospects of cost and value. Finally, in the last paper, we study the properties of a sample path of the AoI process, and we obtain a general formula of its stationary distribution. We relate this result to a discrete time queueing system and provide a general expression of the generating function of AoI in relation with the system time, and the peak age of information (PAoI). To illustrate the applicability of the results, we analyze the AoI in single-server queues with different disciplines and assumptions. We build upon these results to provide a methodology for analyzing general non-linear age functions for this type of systems.
