This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1872 edition. Excerpt: ... 214 XII. OF THE KINGDOM OF CHRIST AND OF GOD.. "When all things shall be subdued unto Him, then shall the Son also Himself be subject unto Him that put all things under Him, that God may be all in all."--1 Cor. xv. 28. We spoke last Thursday of the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ as the one hope of the Church's calling. We saw that it was so, because it brought that Presence of the Bridegroom, and that union with Him, for which the Bride longs; and also that completeness of salvation, both in the living and the departed, which belongs to the First Resurrection. And the New Testament Scriptures were cited to exhibit that what ought to be, once was;--that the attitude of the Primitive Church, while abiding in the Apostles' doctrine and fellowship, was one of earnest expectation of the Coming of her Lord. It was also attempted to be shown that the holy dying, with which later ages had replaced the ancient hope, was quite inadequate to be its substitute. But nothing was then said by way of accounting for the fact of the replacement. Yet it is a sufficiently remarkable phenomenon. Consider first how Jesus put His return before His Apostles, and how living and burning a hope it appears in their writings. And then contrast its present treatment by the Church. It has lost its place alike in theology and in religion;--in the conceptions men form of the plan of salvation, and the expectations they entertain of the future of the Church and the world. It is held at arm's length, and spoken of vaguely and impersonally as " the Second Advent." If it is not resolved into a metaphor, it is at least put too far off to exercise any practical influence on the imagination or the affections. It remains as an article of the Creeds: but it is not too...

Book Description
Standing on Apostolic Roots conveys and reinforces the message as stated in Acts 2:42: "And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine." This is the sure biblical foundation that we must stand on in the midst of ever-changing times. There is nowhere in the Bible where the Apostles' Doctrine was discontinued. Standing on Apostolic Roots talks about the apostles who executed and implemented the instructional teachings of Jesus Christ. This is our biblical instructional guide to living the way God requires us to live. My hope is that the readers of this book will embrace the doctrinal truths as we prepare for the coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Book Description
You don't have to be perfect to do God's work. Look no further than the twelve disciples, whose many weaknesses are forever preserved throughout the pages of the New Testament. Join bestselling author John MacArthur in Twelve Ordinary Men as he draws principles from Christ's careful, hands-on training of the original disciples for today's modern disciple, you! Jesus chose ordinary men--fishermen, tax collectors, political zealots--and turned their weakness into strength, producing greatness from people who were otherwise unremarkable. The twelve disciples weren't the stained-glass saints we imagine. On the contrary, they were truly human, all too prone to mistakes, misstatements, wrong attitudes, lapses of faith, and bitter failure. Simply put, they were flawed people, just like us. But under Jesus' teaching and touch, they became a force that forever changed the world. MacArthur takes you into the inner circle of the disciples--their selection, their training, their personalities, and their incredible impact. As MacArthur took a closer look at the lives of the twelve disciples, he found himself asking difficult questions along the way, including: Why did Jesus pick each of the twelve disciples? How did Jesus teach them everything he could in just eighteen short months? Can the lessons that Jesus taught the disciples can still influence our faith today? In Twelve Ordinary Men, you'll learn that disciples are living proof that God's strength is made perfect in weakness. As you get to know the men who walked with Jesus, you'll see that if he can accomplish his purposes through them, he can do the same through you.
