There are a lot of misconceptions around annuities. Most of them revolve around the sale of variable annuities from brokers where there is a lot of overpromising done, in my Humble opinion. For example, a variable annuity is a security and therefore is an investment that inherently carries risk and comes with high fees. For variable annuities, 3-6 percent in fees could come out of the overall account value annually versus just a 0-1 percent annual fee with a Fixed Indexed Annuity.
