Classification of Concepts in Consumer Education
Author: Rosella Bannister
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Consumer education
Languages : en
Pages : 86
Book Description
Abstract: To encourage awareness of consumer concerns and to foster the dissemination of information about consumer education, a classification system was devised to define concepts relating to consumer economics. Three broad categories (decision making, resource management and citizen participation) encompass 8 coordinate concepts which in turn have 47 sub-concepts. For example, resource management covers financial planning, purchasing, and conserving; purchasing is then further defined as shopping decisions, such as comparisons and alternative markets, and goods, such as food, clothing, transportation, etc. Each concept and its application to consumer education are then defined. Consumer behavior is seen as a sequence of activities from coping and questioning to conserving resources and influencing change; some of the factors which influence consumer decisions are inflation, economic attitudes, life styles, changes in the work force, and political activity.
