Book Description
This document provides test exercises and administrative guidance for evaluating the readiness of M60A1 tank crews. Administrative guidance and equipment requirements for crew testing are given first. Remaining sections of the report present crew performance exercises for Preparation for Operations, and for Tactical Operations. The Crew Performance exercise is designed for use by unit commanders in assessing mastery of tasks requiring interaction by crew members. When used with three companion documents, Tank Crewman (M60A1) Readiness Tests, Tank Crewman (M60A1) Training Modules, and Program Management for a Tank Crewman Skills Training Program, the crew performance exercise provides an integrated 'train-up' package for annual gunnery evaluation. Book Description
This document provides training outlines and administrative guidance for promoting M60A1 tank crewman readiness. Administrative guidance, time estimates and equipment requirements for training are given first. Remaining sections of the report are detailed outlines of training for the crew positions, driver, loader, gunner, and tank commander. The training outlines address knowledge and skill aspects of the important crewman tasks: those tasks that are most relevant to crew gunnery proficiency. The training is designed for use by the unit commander in promoting proficiency in the conduct of before-operations checks, disassembling and assembling weapons, and driving, loading, and shooting in a tactical setting. When used with three companion documents, Tank Crewman (M60A1) Readiness Tests, Tank Crew (M60A1) Performance Exercise, and Program Management for a Tank Crewman Skills Training Program, the module outlines provide and integrated 'train-up' package for annual gunnery evaluation. Book Description
This document provides tests and administrative guidance for evaluating M60A1 tank crewman job readiness. General procedures, time estimates, and support equipment for using the tests in a unit setting are given first. Remaining sections of the report give detailed test administration and scoring procedures for the crew positions, driver, loader, gunner, and tank commander. The tests cover knowledge and skill aspects of the important crewman tasks: those tasks that are most relevant to crew gunnery proficiency. The tests are designed for use by the unit commander in diagnosing crewmen abilities in conducting before-operations checks, disassembling and assembling weapons, and driving, loading, and shooting in a tactical setting. When used with the three companion documents, Tank Crewman (M60A1) Training Modules, Tank Crew (M60A1) Performance Exercise, and Program Management for a Tank Crewman Skills Training Program, the readiness tests provide an integrated 'train-up' package for annual gunnery evaluation. Book Description
In support of the US Army Armor School's training effectiveness analysis of the M60A1 tank, an attempt was made to identify factors in standard Armor training that may influence the number of rounds used to zero the tank main gun. Rounds to zero is a measure of efficiency in boresighting (visually aligning gun tube and sight) and in zeroing (correcting the aiming point by observation of actual hits). In a scheduled field exercise, 34 M60A1 tank crews filled in questionnaires on their knowledge of the principles and procedures of boresighting and zeroing, their perceptions of gunnery outcomes, and their experience. Afterward, data collectors observed and recorded the boresighting and zeroing exercises and results. Five factors were assessed in relation to number of rounds to zero: gun tube life, as determined from the tank logbooks; and the tank commanders' and gunners' experience, knowledge of procedures, knowledge of principles, and expectations of results.

Book Description
The progression of tank weapon systems beginning with the M60A1/AOS and proceeding through the M60A3 and the XM-1 represents a series of major product improvements and materiel advances, some of which (e.g., the capability of firing on the move) are expected to impact significantly upon both the content and method of tank crew training. The need for an effective language of task description is seen in two areas of current concern to the Army: the area of personnel selection and the area of simulation in training. In the case of both the M60A3 and the XM-1, the Materiel Need Statements have called for the development of systems capable of being operated by individuals with the same combination of skills, knowledges, and abilities as currently specified in AR 611-201 (Enlisted Military Occupational Specialties) for armor crewmen, MOS 11E. The application of the TAEG model to the components of armor crewman task performance identified in the present research represents a logical extension of available task data and can provide useful information concerning the consideration of alternative training structures associated with the development of such new tank systems as the XM-1.

Book Description
This report briefly reviews the methods used in developing a model test of tank crew marksmanship and presents the detailed task analysis data base developed in the course of that effort. Descriptions are included of 266 job objectives that represent all of the ways an M60A1AOS tank is capable of engaging a threat target under current doctrine. Each objective is described in terms of the conditions of the engagement and the precise behaviors which each crew member must perform. The objectives are organized into clusters which are homogeneous in content, thus facilitating the use of the data base for development of training programs, design and evaluation of training devices, and test development. Also included are computing algorithms and program listings for measuring certain characteristics of engagements, including behavioral generalizability (the extent to which performance on one specific engagement may predict performance on others) and behavioral coverage (the extent to which all possible tank crew behaviors are represented by a subset of engagements).
